I'm not sure about meningitis, and yes it's a scary illness (though

I'm sure there are plenty of natural things you can do), but the polio

vax is DEFINITELY scarier than possible polio outbreaks. The WHO

admits that more kids were getting polio FROM the vax than from wild

viruses! I sure wouldn't worry about that one.

As for the measles, complications are SO rare, it's not much worse

than chicken pox (so I'm told). You'd probably be in for a rough

couple weeks, but with the proper support/care everything would be

fine. Just remember that these people are going to use scare tactics

to make you feel like you MUST vax, but they are just that, scare

tactics, they are not reality.

Hey , are you in the Twin Cities?... I am, and hadn't heard

about these meningitis cases (links, info?) - I'll google it here

after I send this; anyway, I have to say that I TOTALLY feel like you

- damned if you do, damned if you don't!!!! I have even had

nightmares lately (haha, that I was being vaxed forcefully LOL) - but

seriously... like I told my husband last night, I'm scared TO

vaccinate, but I'm scared NOT to, either! I don't know and can't rest

easy either way, at this point. I JUST WANT PEACE OF MIND but cannot

come to terms with it.

Actually, I'm in NYC but I guess her comments were meant to send the

message " this could happen anywhere, anytime " . I haven't had much

time to be online today but may google it as well later tonight.

I found an article about the meningitis cases in Minnesota; they

don't specify which city/town:

http://projectdisaster.com/?p=11157

It's a scary article, the very thing that's being aimed at anyone not

vaccinating their child. I have to admit they do a pretty good job

of making you question your choice to not get this vaccine.

I know how you feel. You get in there knowing your mind and then they pull the

meningitis card and scare the daylights out of you.

You get past the fear by not putting yourself in situations where the fear is

created. I suggest you pass on the checkups, which are only for vaccines anyway.

As time goes by, you will see that your child is healthy and that what you are

doing is working. Keep the ped on standby if you feel the need, but regular

checkups are where they will get you.

You also get past the fear when you remember that the vaccine is not guaranteed

to work (if you even believe they do at all). Your child may never even get

exposed to meningitis, but giving a vaccine would be a definite " exposure " and

carries the immediate risk of death.

Now, when you say the naturopaths don't take your insurance, do you mean your

insurance won't cover them, or the ND's office just won't process the paperwork

and you have to do it yourself? I find that many (not all) insurance companies

cover the visits and some treatments, but not the meds.

I know it can be tough to come up with the money for the visit before getting

reimbursed, but that is the route I would suggest. You'll find you won't need

them too often anyway.

It takes time. I remember at first I was worried about vaccine side effects but

still thought vaccines worked. Once you realize they don't (and if you don't get

to that point right away, at least keep in mind that even the ped won't

guaranteed them), it all becomes crystal clear. It's the lingering feeling they

work that holds you back from having sweet dreams.

Hi Lindsey,

Look at the beginning of this paper:

http://www.who.int/immunization/wer7828polio_Jul03_position_paper.pdf

I'd recommend reading more of what the WHO has to say, it really has

only strengthened my resolve to see how not-scary these diseases

really are in a developed country. And from a " mainstream " source too!

I will just say as a peds nurse I rarely saw meningitis in the 70's.

RARE. And remember, pretty much all kids were vaccinated then. But

were vaccinated with far less vaccines.

I have even more rarely, since then, heard of meningitis in an

unvaccinated child.

While they may say the child that got meningitis was not vaccinated -

that may mean 2 out of 3 shots, but didn't get the 3rd.

Or had all their other vaccines, but not that vaccine.

Please don't buy into the fear they want you to buy into. I try to

help teach you this on this list and in my online classes.

Exactly - those checkups are for vaccination. Otherwise no one would

go. Take it from me, a former peds RN.

Many now see naturopaths, homeopaths, chiropractors, osteopaths

(D.O.s) or family practice doctors.

We carry those 'germs' around with us all the time.

Every homeopath or naturopath I have contacted either a) does not

take ANY insurance or B) takes some insurance, but not mine and my

insurance does not cover ANY out of network coverage (so no chance of

reimbursement, etc.) It's another whole issue that angers me, that

good, alternative care is not available and/or affordable for all.

First of all, if they can't get their facts straight, anything they say is

suspect. The Hib vaccine came out before 1992. My oldest son was a year-old when

he got it and that was in 1991. So, there.

And it should be noted that the shutdown by Merck due to bacterial contamination

is a red flag for all vaccines. How many children were given the contaminated

vaccines? How many are given other contaminated vaccines? How quickly did Merck

respond to the finding, or were they forced to? Lots of unanswered questions.

Another article stated the three unvaccinated hadn't received any vaccines. One

of the vaxed ones was 5 months old and had as many as that age would get. The

other was fully vaxed and older.

The question really should be, with the Hib vaccine shortage and fewer children

receiving all of them, why aren't there MORE cases of meningitis?

Oh, boy. You're stuck then. You'll need to learn it yourself and use the ped for

Same here basically. We are military and Tricare doesn't even consider

homeopathy, chiropractors etc as medicine/health care providers. They

cover out of network MDs, but nothing else :(

We do the WBV for having it on paper. I don't care what the doc says.

Docs in the military don't administer vaccines, they have a special

immunization clinic for that, so I just don't go there and hence there

is no chance of ending up with vaccines... Let's see what happens at the

6 months WBV... I don't care to discuss the issue anymore. Just in case

DS gets really sick we know a ped then. *shrug*

The meningitis thing gets me too. But then I think hey nobody in my

generation ever had that vaccine and yet I don't know anyone who had the

disease. Then DS is breastfed and I eat as good as I can (I can't shed

my chocolate addiction just yet though)....

What are you worried about, problems from the shots or that he didn't get enough

of them?

It says the cases of Hib meningitis are usually with children who have received

1 or 2 shots or have not received that shot and received the others. That is

what Sheri wrote?  Have your children received this vaccine?  Or one or 2 of the

3 or 4?

My older two each had one. My younger two had none. None of them got sick.

What are you worried about exactly?

I think she's worried that she is somehow jeapordizing her child by

not completing the course of Hib vaccine as per the CDC's

recommendations.

Jen, what you need to remember is that with every vaccine you

administer, you run the risk of injury or death... and that risk

compounds everytime you inject another and another. You never know

WHICH shot is going to be the loaded one. The reason they are stating

that the children that usually come down with meningitis have only had

one or two shots is because THE SHOTS DON'T WORK. Think about it...

if they worked, why wouldn't you be able to just have one shot and be

done with it? Not only do they not work, they CAUSE the illness they

are supposed to prevent. So yeah, children who have been injected

with the Hib vaccine actually have a higher risk of GETTING Hib.

Have you read Neil Z. 's book, " The Vaccine Safety Manual for

Concerned Families and Health Practioners " yet? If not, you should

really get a copy - or see if it's in your library. The book will

help quelch a lot of your fear. Realize that you are being driven

purely by fear at this point, which is exactly where bigPharma wants

you! Take back control with knowledge and the fear will start to

fade. :)

I understand exactly where you are, because I was there once, too. I

used to feel the whole " Damned if you do, damned if you don't "

thing... but now I just feel very fortunate that I was able to find

the truth and my kids can ultimately be healthier for it.

I am worried that he can contract it because of what was stated in Sheri's

email.

It says that most children partially vaxed  1 or 2 shots, are the ones who come

down with HIB.

Then on the NJVC website it states that children that have received 2 shots out

of 74 cases, 41-55 of those children contracted it.

That is why I am worried and freaking out.

I suggest that vaxing your children strongly affects their immune

system and leaves them vulnerable so they are the ones who get

meningitis. More vaccines will not help. I also suggest that HIB

follows vaccination

So, you're worried that the kids who got one or two are more likely to come down

with meningitis for whatever reason.

But, that is NOT what Sheri said. She said " While they may say the child that

got meningitis was not vaccinated - that may mean 2 out of 3 shots, but didn't

get the 3rd. Or had all their other vaccines, but not that vaccine. "

She was explaining how children who did not get all of the shots are sometimes

considered " not vaccinated. " They use that in articles to give the false

impression that more kids were unvaccinated than truly were.

I'm not sure why you concluded that this means partially vaccinated kids are

more likely to get meningitis.

My SIL (who is expecting her first child and is researching vaccines) just sent

me the article about the menengitis " outbreak " and is asking my opinion on it.

Could someone please forward me the rebuttal article that I see everyone talking

about so I can pass it on to her?

Thanks,
