Guest guest
Welcome ! The biggest challenge will be getting enough protein. If your goals are fat loss Hussman suggests even skewing your portion to slightly more protein than carbs. Check his site out at http://www.hussman.com/eas It is long but an excellent read. Another shortfall could be Essential Fatty Acids so a daily supplement of Udo's Choice oil or Flax Seed oil is very helpful. All the best! Guest guest
Dear Joni, Thank you for your uplifting reply! I agree that bad OCD is the pits. It is unbelievably FRUSTRATING to have a child who won't do something and there is no logical explanation, and no way in **** that you can talk them out of their fears. The "I'm going to throw up! This time I really am!!!" phase is NOT one I hope to ever revisit. And yes, kids generally love to be around Annie because she is so full of wild (and always parentally unapproved of) ideas. But we've gone over the edge this summer so we have to rein her in a bit. I think it's too much Luvox (when we upped her Paxil last year she climbed out on the roof - 2nd story - at night. Gulp). I'm glad to be back in communication!
Guest guest
Hi, ! I got your post. I don't have any advise regarding meds for OCD and ADHD, but I just wanted to let you know I got your post. Good luck with the confusing med situation and keep us posted on Annie's progress. Melinda S. Dallas > Glory be, I'm out here alone and can't communicate! Guest guest
, You have my support and SYMPATHY about the ADHD/OCD diagnosis. (18) has just dropped out of high school (!!!) because 'the classes are too BORING' and 'I can't stand it, Mom... It's HELL for me to sit in those 2 hour classes, and.. You CANT make me go!!' ugh. And, he's right. At 18, I can't make him return to school for his senior year in Sept. and I'm totally disappointed. So, I've given him an ultimatum: No school/GED= no more free room and board at MY house. So, he's got to at least get his GED. If he refuses to do that-- he can't live here anymore. (Well, I'm hoping this will work!) But, here's a little good news for you: was such a FUN kid. He's got so many friends who LOVE and ADORE him. It's his eNeRgY and High Enthusiasm and ZEST for life!!! It's been ALOT easier raising him than it has been raising his little brother (10) with just OCD. At least with the ADHD, they're out of the house, playing and having the time of their lives. Maybe just a little more than we'd like, but that zest for life is contagious! And, with an ironic twist of fate, was always the son that I worried about the most - yet, the mild OCD (and anxiety) that he's got keeps him VERY cautious behind the wheel. Funny, but just a few years ago, when he was riding a bike, I'd be beside myself with worry because he was so hYpEr, he wouldn't look both ways and he'd dart out in front of on- coming traffic!! He has truly surprised me with how cautious and responsible a driver he is!! Wow... it's a miracle! Be glad you caught this early. refuses to take meds for his ADHD/OCD and he won't go to therapy. This is because when we tried the meds, he HATED that 'medicine head feeling' because it slowed him down. Now that he's a teenager, he seems more bipolar than ADHD (a catch- all diagnosis for children). Many of his friends have seen his wild mood swings and think the same. We're watching him for bipolar and told him that help is always available if/when he feels himself spinning out of control and that 'it' (whatever 'it' is) is controlling HIM, instead of him controlling it. He said, 'thanks, but I'm in control.' Anyway, I smiled when I read your post. Annie must be a delight. I actually miss the younger cRaZy wild-child because in contrast to his little brother (with OCD), OCD is such a BUMMER!!! I'm really not doing well being the supportive parent that I should be with . He's NOT fun and he's always so afraid of such STUPID things. At least with , I'd be laughing at his silly hyperness- - the way he'd climb up to the highest tree branch and couldn't get down. Or the way he had me so terrified when I took him rock climbing in the mountains and he was jumping from rock to rock on the side of a cliff - thousands of feet in the air. (!!) My heart never stopped pounding with THAT kid!!! Now, it's just plain BROKEN and DEPRESSED with . Have fun with Annie. She sounds like a very cool kid. Joni (who would take 10 kids w/ ADHD over 1 kid with OCD anyday!) > Glory be, I'm out here alone and can't communicate! Help! > For some reason I have not been getting mail from the list. Guest guest
Hi , You aren't alone....maybe everyone who went to the conference is too OCD'ed out to post right now! I hear you loud and clear about the combo of AD/HD and OCD. My son (now 8) has both and his meds are Prozac, Concerta and Buspar. Paxil, which is usually sedating made him so hyper that I feared for his life (really). Celexa did nothing at all and prozac so far has worked really well. We decided to try Buspar for his lingering anxiety and he has had a much better time of it. It could be that the Luvox is too energizing for her. It is really scary for me having a hyper, impulsive child around that has to be watched every minute. I hope for all your sakes that you cant find out how to treat Annie medically sooner rather than later. Best wishes, in Southeastern PA --- xslav@... wrote: > Glory be, I'm out here alone and can't communicate! > Help! > For some reason I have not been getting mail from > the list. Guest guest
Big Laugh, ! Thanks, I needed that! (18) used to 'balcony hop' and climb out on the roof too. When I was going thru' this terror, I didn't think it was so funny. My heart never stopped racing over the DANGER my son always got himself into! But, honestly, I only WISH would freaking DANCE on the rooftops!!! Jump from the highest mountain!! Or, like his brother used to, get jiggy with it and play chicken with the cars on his bike!!! PLEASE!!! SOMETHING!! ANYTHING other than sitting in the house asking me a billion times if I put poison in his food!!! Damn--- last night after I sent my post, I told him: 'Yep, I DID put poison in your food. I guess you're gonna croak now!!! Let's go pick out your casket. Where do you want to be buried? Oh, and by the way, you've been poisoned your whole life. See that sofa? It's poisoned. See the carpet-- yep, poisoned, too. In fact, I wash your clothes in POISON!!! So, you're WEARING poison! Oh, and I breast-fed you for TWO whole years-- and yep, you guessed it, I was poisoning you back then too!! It's a miracle that you are still here!!! " Welllllll.... naturally he didn't see the humor in it. At least ADHD has a sense of humor! In fact, ADHD IS Humorous. But, OCD --- wellllll.... forget it. He came after me and tried to CHOKE me when I said that stuff! He threw things at me, called me names that NO ONE has ever called me before (the kind that make your hair stand up on your head) and if that wasn't bad enough, he started throwing stuff at me. My husband just sat there! He didn't do a damn thing!!! I went upstairs and locked the door. I told my husband--->YOU DEAL WITH HIM. I'm through. Ugh. I'm so tired of OCD I could scream. Guest guest
I'm here. Happy Mom's day to you too. Maybe we should start talking about politics. That usually generates a lot of traffic. Seriously though, I broke my toe a couple of days ago, but other than that . . . Well, there is one other thing - - I've stopped taking that nasty Verapamil. When they reset my device, the doc told me to cut the dose in half which I did for a month. But I quit this week. I can't stand the stuff any more. It wiped out my energy and it gave me fat ankles but it didn't help my heart symptoms at all. So wish me luck. Guest guest
Bridget, Sorry to hear about the toe. Is it slowing you down at all? As to the meds, please be careful. The ONLY reason I was on it was to suppress improper 'therapy'. Since they reprogrammed my ICD, I really don't need it anymore. And I feel SO much better with all that fluid out of my system. I have in the past changed my meds against a doctors wishes though. I don't recommend it for everyone, but if you do all the research, sometimes it's the most effective way to change a doctor's mind. I was on Lipitor and my hands were getting so weak that I was having problems sewing. My GP flat out refused to address the issue and I wasn't seeing my Cardio at the time. I did the research, found out that the Lipitor was the likely culprit and stopped it myself. I told her flat out, that if my cholesterol went up, I'd find a way to solve the problem. And I did. Oats and psyllium do exactly the same thing as the Lipitor did for me, only without the side effects. Another thing, I adjust myself is my Asthma meds. Certain times of the year I need more and I take more, other times I need less so I take less. Although that I have a doctor's blessing on. They have all pretty much admitted that I know what I'm doing with my asthma. Haven't had an ER worthy attack in many years now. So, no, I don't recommend you all start fiddling with your meds. But do take the time to do some research about them all and what side effects they may be causing and what alternatives are available. It's my little toe and being a barefoot baby all my life, I've done it before. So I'm use to it.
