Hi Group,

If this isn't the right place for this question then please direct me to where

is the right place. :)

I am looking for natural common sense ways to boost the human immune system in

an otherwise very healthy (no diabetes, no vax for many years and never again

and no meds and/or supplements currently, no high blood pressure, no high

cholesterol, eats a wonderful diet, low stress, gets a good amount of sleep, is

a good weight, gets out in the sun for vitamin D, is active) person. Planning

on becoming pregnant sometime within the future time period of 6 months to 2

years.

I have read not to take vitamins, just get all you need from food, eat spinach,

blueberries, bananas, yogurt and drink green tea daily. I have heard vitamin C,

fish oil, chewable B-12, and folic acid are good to take. There is a lot of

information out there and I would appreciate even more. :)

I would be appreciative for any help offered to build and strenghten the immune

system.

Sincerely,

Val W.

Why is it not good to take supplemental vitamins? I think its hard to

get all the vitamins from fresh food unless your lucky enough to live

in a tropical area and have organics available.

Vitamins too have two sides . Some books say they just pass through the system.

Other books say they have to be natural. Some say they have to be made of whole

foods. Many say synthetics can't be absorbed. Some say none are absorbed. Every

one has an opinion including me. I take them on and off. If they work that's

good. If they don't I haven't spent a lot of money. Some believe they are cheap

insurance. Problem is taking a lot of different vitamins can be expensive. I eat

a lot of raw food. I know the opinions of the soil being depleted. Yet I see a

lot of strong young healthy people around. Who knows for sure, most of these

controversy's are not proven they are beliefs. Like someone just posted about

the disease party's and said the radio dj's talked about licking lollipops and

drinking from the same glass. Well I can tell you when I was young the bottle

was passed around from mouth to mouth all over this country. I say that from

personal experience

because I went to four schools and ran the streets for many more. The only

thing to do is research and make your own decision based on whatever facts you

come across. P.S. Because I grew up like that I had no fear of germs before I

knew I was supposed to be afraid of them.

I highly suggest regular chiropractic care before and especially

DURING your pregnancy... and for life, really. It helps keep the

spine aligned so that the systems of the body can communicate

effectively and don't get crossed. It can also help to make sure your

hips and pelvis are in optimal position for a more efficient birth. I

had weekly chiropractic adjustments during both of my pregnancies; I

don't know how women do pregnancy without it!

Hey Val,

Naturally Healthy Pregnancy by Shonda , has a lot of information

about before you are pregnant. How to boost your immune system, detox

etc. It was an awesome book that I referred to often throughout all

five of my pregnancies. When you do get pregnant, are you going to use

an OB, or a midwife? You could consider looking them up already, and

just having a visit with them. They might charge a nominal fee, but it

is worth it. They can offer some great advice, they often have a

plethora of books available to read and borrow as well. And they can

refer you to a good chiro. Go TO The Chiropractor! My Chiropractor

says that often women come to him after they have had a baby, and he

wishes they would start before. Even state health funding allows for

chiro visits for pregnant women now.

Supplementing with vitamins in my own opinion and from my observation

is very helpful.

Multi-Vitamins IMO are not a good idea. because you may be low in say selenium

and on an individual basis you may need 40 mcg of selenium but I may need 60 mcg

of selenium per day. That would mean I need more iodine & minerals than you do

too. I suspect because we are all individual the amt. of nutrients we need is

all different. Most everything is counted by weight for dosing except the

vitamins & they really should be. If the multi-vitamin had 60 mcg of selenium &

you only needed 40mcg, you would become toxic. Our metabolic rates can help us

determine what we need & use.

We should all aim to eat as much food that will gives high quality nutrients as

possible. I read a study in my school that the nutrition of a growing pea now

vs. 100 years ago is now only 30%. Jenn L Re: Boosting Adult Human Immune System

Hi Val,

DH and I are hoping to get pregnant with #2 in the next few months so

I've started lining up my supplements now so I can form some good

habits before I'm actually pregnant.

So far I'm doing greens (either raw kale in a smoothie or dry mix -

Green Vibrance), brewer's yeast (many vitamins and trace minerals), vit

C (organic all fruit powder from Alive), cod liver oil, butter oil and

dessicated organ capsule. This is in line with recommendations from

Weston Price. Here is their article about diet for

pregnant/breastfeeding mothers:

http://www.westonaprice.org/children/dietformothers.html

I think prenatals/multis are okay if they're " clean " and food-based.

There are a few out there but they tend to be very expensive. My plan

is to focus on whole foods, per Weston Price, and keep a prenatal multi

as backup. I won't use it unless I feel like I just didn't reach my

food goals for the week.

Just some ideas... good luck.

Ditto on this as well.
