Guest guest
Wow you sound like your little ones gets put through the ringer with those ear infections/teething. Not sure if you like using holistic products but Hylands- they make teething tablets- they make something for ear aches too. They come in a much larger package then the tablets for teething and you give them 4 at a time, the doses are individually separated in the package. My peds recommended them for my daughter even when she didn't have one because they are all herbs and wont do any harm like antibiotics do stripping the good bacteria as well as the bad. You might want to think about giving her probiotics also- life start by natren is good. But just make sure if she is on the antibiotic you space the probiotic two or three hours before or after the antibiotic. Good luck and God bless, Heidi From: Richter <therichters1301@...> Subject: Teething help?!?!? Vaccinations Date: Tuesday, November 11, 2008, 7:25 AM Hi ladies. My daughter is 14 months old (soon) and is now cutting her bottom molars. Her bottom left side is super super swollen. A few weeks ago it was the same w/her top molars. She had a fever of 102-103 for about 3 days during that time. We took her to pediatrician and she wound up having a double ear infection. With every tooth that came in for me growing up I had double ear infections and was of course given amoxicillin. My daughter was given it too and I did give it to her, however after about 5 days on it while she had no fever and seemed to be feeling better she wound up breaking out in hives and the doc thinks she is allergic to penicillin. At the onset of fever yesterday we brought her to the chiropractor to get adjusted. Dr. said she was very out of alignment and while we didn't mention teething at all she said her jaw and mouth area were out of alignment. I was hoping for a speedy fix, and for it not to lead to another ear infection. Fever is still present (at 102.5). She doesn't tug on her ears or act as though they are hurting. She is getting a bit congested though and I know that that can lead to the ear infection b/c of not being able to drain properly. That being said. Does anyone know of anything to reduce fever, eliminate a POSSIBLE ear infection and help w/teething? While I don't vaccinate, I don't like to overmedicate but I do medicate if needed. I know she is more comfortable with motrin/Tylenol and so I have been alternating that as I did last time. Just curious if anyone had any other suggestions. I haven't read the article on ear infections yet but wanted to get this email out and see if anyone had any ideas. I love our pediatrician and don't mind taking her in. Ear infections are one of those things that stress me out b/c I had so many, so many bad ones and know what they are like. I am thankful she has only had 1 growing up so far.I know it could have been worse. She doesn't seem to be in pain from the teething, but the fever is what concerns me. We did the cool bath, the sweat it out stuff etc the last time she had a fever for a few days and that didn't help. The only thing that worked was giving her medication so if anyone has any other ideas I am very open to them! Thanks Jenn R VA Beach

Guest guest
i totally agree i don't like to over medicate and doctors are all the willing to give meds that don't even work, or just mask the infections.. one the fever has to be now if it does get too high of course you have to bring it down, but the fever is the bodies way of fighting off the germs and way too many parents give tylenol at the first site of a fever and it is just doing more damage then good...... but here is some stuff i found hope it will help you To avoid ear aches and infections, one should keep the Eustachian tube free of pollutants and irritants and regularly clean the nasal passage.Take vitamin C to boost your immune system, it will help you to combat infection. Increase Zinc intake, it reduces ear infection. Eat a healthy diet with lots of calcium in it. Avoid processed foods and hydrogenated oils. Stress on breast feeding for infection in infants. Avoid going in front of any one smoking because cigarette smoke can block Eustachian tubes. Avoid accompanying people suffering from cold. Wash your hands regularly. Avoid touching nose and eyes. Home remedies for earache The greatest pain reliever is warm, moist heat around the ear. A warm compress-such as a towel rung out in hot water and pressed against the ear-brings the most immediate relief. After you take a shower or bath; blow dry your ears instead of rubbing them. Soothe the ear with the warm setting of a hairdryer. Puncture a piece of garlic and pour the juice in the ear. Garlic being a natural antibiotic will help to take the pain away. Warm few drops of olive oil in a spoon. Using the dropper, put 2-3 drops in each ear after the oil has cooled down. This will help relieve pain. Guest guest
Hi Any Allopath that gives a 14 month old baby drugs should go directly to jail. Your child is not drug deficient. I do not know what you feed her, but I would examine that issue first. All those types of infections are self limiting and the body will restore health. Those drugs are only adding poison into an already poisonous little body. For the what its worth department, I haven't been to a Dr. in over 40 years and never taken any drugs except an occasional aspirin for a headache. When I was a child I had whooping cough. My mother put me to bed and gave me some chicken broth when I was hungry and I coughed myself well. I never had measles but I had chicken-pox. I simply played right through it. The drug people have lied so long about their poisonous products " curing " that all you younger people have been lied to about how to treat sickness and what causes it. I would recommend any book by Bragg. A person who lived what he preached. Guest guest
I definitely second the Hyland's teething tablets. They are a blend of homeopathic remedies for fever, pain, and discomfort. As for ear aches, fortunately, we haven't had to deal with them, but I have also heard that warm garlic oil in the ear canal is soothing and healing. Best of luck to you and your little one. It's hard when they are going through that!
Guest guest
Heidi, I guess I wasn't very clear in my email. My daughter has only had 1 ear infection and that was recently when her top molars were coming in. I had grown up with ear infections with every new tooth that came in. So far we are lucky and she has only had the 1. Turns out she didn't have an ear infection and her fever went away in about a day and a half. I took her into see the pediatrician to get them checked and they looked fine. She had a bit of puss and redness on her throat. Doc did a culture and came back negative. She is back to normal now. I was mainly just curious what everyone used for fevers if anything. She didn't seem to be in any pain from the teething aspect, but the fever is where she got lethargic and very uncomfortable. Thanks Jenn Wow you sound like your little ones gets put through the ringer with those ear infections/teething. Guest guest
Hi correy, not sure what you mean? I wholeheartedly believe that kids can get fevers from teething, even though a lot of parenting books, pediatricians, people think otherwise. Not sure what you are asking/saying though? Jenn Hi Jenn Sorry, for the short response but I wanted to tell you this. I thought that a fever went along with teething. correy
