It did not bleed but looks like it is bleeding under the skin. Dr's say I need a tetnus shot because its been longer than 5 years since my last shot. I am not worried so much about tetnus because as far as I know tetanus occurs in a deep wound that does not heal properly, more worried about infection or rabies or something like that.I googled dog bites and it says that rabies is uncommon in the US but that if a dog begins to show aggressive behavior it could be a sign of rabies? My friend says he is up to date on his shots, just wondering if it is as big of a deal as people are telling me, because the dog has been snapping alot at people, but that comes with his age as well, not just rabies. If anyone knows any info about dog bites please pass your wisdom along. It is very tender to the touch today, I have been putting antibiotic on it, and now has one big purple scar under the skin that is obviously from the dogs longer tooth. Thanks for ya'lls time.Trayce
Guest guest
Chances are the rabies shot is what caused the aggression in the dog. It's " one " of the worst shots there is for the dog. If the skin isn't broken, then why even get the tetanus shot? I'd just wash the area with some peroxide and leave it be. You're probably sore from the bruising. ---- Pat
Guest guest
For puncture wounds to heal the homeopathic remedy Ledum would be helpful. I just wanted to comment on the dog and how he is becoming more aggressive. This is not him getting older this is a result of the rabies vaccine. As you know there are a lot of side effects when a human gets vaccinated same thing with dogs. Here's a quick article: http://www.dogs4dogs.com/JR_Articles/Rabies.html Alison ________________________________
Guest guest
Rabies in dogs is extremely rare, but if you feel better asking the owner for shot records I would ask. For an animal to transmit rabies it has to be noticably ill. It's only contagious in about the last 10 days of the disease which is why often they will quarantine an animal who has bitten for 10 days to see if it dies. If it does they know they have to worry, if it doesn't they assume it does not have rabies. You can also check with your local animal control to see if there have been any cases of rabies in your area if it will help ease your mind. > > Yesterday my friends dog was somehow spooked by me and bit me in the > side of my stomach...Its not a deep wound or puncture,I honestly > thought it was a just a claw scratch, but the dog owner said she saw > him bite at me, and now it is obvious I have teeth marks in my skin. Guest guest
Trayce, I have to agree with what a couple others have said about the undeniable link between the rabies vaccine and aggression in dogs. I wouldn’t be overly concerned about the dog having rabies as it is very, very rare indeed. The dog would be best served by being treated by a reputable Classical Homeopath that can help to repair the damage done by the rabies vaccine (and other vaccines that this dog has endured), and halt further aggression and surely chronic disease. Guest guest
Hi Trayce, You definitely do not need a tetanus shot. So don't worry about that. I am very experienced in animal medicine and have experienced first hand some bites and many clients with bites. You will bruise, and need to look for infection, but if you keep it clean it will heal and you will be fine. The actual chance of rabies is VERY low, and only usually seen in wild animals. If a domesticated dog gets bit by a rabid animal it will show signs within 10 days, and the instances are so low. I know that most of the time even if the bite is deep they do not suture dog bites so not to sew in any infection. When hubby was bit in the face years ago he needed sutures and he went on antibiotics and healed fine. I don't think he even needed the antibiotics, but since they did suture he took them. From working at the vet I have learned that if you do keep the bite clean it will heal well. If this was a cat bite/scratch that would be very different. You know the old saying that dogs mouths are cleaner then humans? From what I have researched it is true. So you should expect a bruise, and look for infection, but other then that you should be fine. : ) Crisanti Canyon Creek Labs and Great Danes www.canyoncreeklabs.com On Nov 14, 2008, at 4:44 PM, trayce_h wrote: > Yesterday my friends dog was somehow spooked by me and bit me in the > side of my stomach...Its not a deep wound or puncture,I honestly > thought it was a just a claw scratch, but the dog owner said she saw > him bite at me, and now it is obvious I have teeth marks in my skin. > It > did not bleed but looks like it is bleeding under the skin. Guest guest
What is the difference with cats?
Guest guest
Cats carry many more bacteria in their mouth, and cat bites tend to get infected much more. Often times a cat bite will swell and abscess and become infected, and most of the techs I know who have been bit have wound up in the hospital. Plus they often scratch along with bite, and they can cause infection and catch scratch fever (which I never knew was real until I worked for the vet!) I have never seen any problems besides bruising with a dog bite. This is just in my experience. : ) Crisanti Canyon Creek Labs and Great Danes www.canyoncreeklabs.com On Nov 15, 2008, at 7:20 AM, grafted2theroot@... wrote: > What is the difference with cats? > >
Guest guest
I don't think you can definitively blame the rabies vaccine, although I agree it could be that. However, if the dog is getting older, it could just as easily be poor eyesight or hearing and it gets startled. My old dog was like that and she hadn't been vaxed in years. I see no need for a tetanus shot. Just keep the area clean and I always use homeopathic Arnica. The Ledum sounds like a good choice, too. Winnie Re: I got bit by a dog... Guest guest
I had to put a dog down for aggression after a rabies vaccine. He was a GREAT dog until that vaccine. He attacked three people after that... my husband, my best friend's son and his favorite handler at doggie daycare. I had to put him down about two weeks after the vax. Of course, yet another thing that added fuel to the fire in my world that made me reserach the vaccine thing hard before I had kids. Guest guest
Oh, that must have broken your heart. If it made a difference in your outlook on vaccines, you can know it was not for nothing. When my dog got cancer, I was thrown into the world of alternative medicine out of desperation. It totally turned my views around, and was the reason I stopped vaxing. I truly believe it happened to save my son whose health was rapidly going downhill. Everything happens for a reason, but it's so, so sad to have the animals suffer for it. Winnie Re: I got bit by a dog...
