Guest guest
Regular store brought honey will still help. I have used that before, and it has worked. The Manuka honey just has higher antiseptic properties. I am pretty sure Maracuja has info on this. I am sure she posted something a while back. The saliva will most certainly be the reason it is getting infected. You may just have to change the dressing a bit more frequently. It is hard sometimes when wounds are in places like that. Guest guest
Hi Deepali, So sorry to hear that your little one has had this injury. So hard to see them hurt, isn't it? Have you been back to your homeopath to ask for further advice? If it were me - which it isn't, of course - I would be thinking about using homoeopathic hypericum - often used to follow arnica, which is largely most effective for the shock, bruising and general trauma of an injury such as this. Hypericum has anti-sepsis properties and is often useful for an injury in a very nerve-rich place for easing the pain. My advice would be to get back to him and ask for a further remedy. It should also be possible to get some hypericum in mother tincture which could be used to bathe the wound when changing dressings. Honey is good for drawing poison out of a wound, but I would have thought it would have to be unprocessed honey, preferably organic. Sterilised honey would surely not be therapeutic? My herbal textbook, Bartram's, says this of honey: " Many bacteria cannot live in the presence of honey since honey draws from them the moisture essential to their existence. It is a potent inhibitor of the growth of bacteria: salmonella, shigella and E. Coli. Taken internally and externally, hastens granulation and arrests necrotic tissue. A natural bacteriostatic and bactericide. " " As a cooling analgesic: dressings smeared with honey and left on after pain has subsided to prevent swelling - for cuts, scratches, fistula, boils, felon, animal bites; stings of mosquitoes, wasps, bees, fleas, etc. May be applied to any kind of wound: Dip gauze strips in pure honey and bind infected area; leave 24 hours. " So if you can get some pure, organic honey, go for it! Good luck - let us know how she goes. Sue x -- Re: My child fell on the floor and got a gash on the underchin. Hi , thank you so much for writing back. I have kept the page open and keep on refreshing it! That's how desperate I am. I have been giving her son's Chewable 500 mg Vitamin C sweetened with grape juice which consists of equal parts of SA and AA at least 3-4 times a day. I always used to give her two tabs daily but since she got hurt I have increased it to 4 times a day. The thing is she drools a lot and so I think part of the problem is that the saliva is constantly keeping the dressings wet. We have been applying Steri strips now but they become wet too. I don't know what Manuka honey is and I doubt we will find it here. Can I apply regular store-bought honey instead? I know my DH will be aghast at the idea but I am willing to try it. Also we were thinking of taking her to the pediatrician today evening because I don't want it to get infected further. I gave her Arnica once again sometime back. I am just praying hard this wound heals soon. I hate seeing my DD fight and cry at the doctor's clinic. It is just so sad. Me and my DH try to engage her in play and then quickly try dressing it up. Thanks for your help. Deepali > > Hi Deepali, if it were me, I would start giving regular doses of sodium ascorbate (vit C). I would also put some honey on the dressing rather than betadine. The honey will help to draw the pus etc out, and the vit c will help to heal from the inside. I am sure others here will have much better advice than me. But I wanted to answer, because the list is often quiet at this time, and I know you will be anxiously waiting for some input. As far as honey goes, the Manuka is the best. But I rarely have any because it is costly. I just use the regular stuff. I often thought about buying the manuka specifically for first aid. But it is just delicious, and really hard to not eat it. > > By the way, have you taken the dressing off to have a proper look at it. If there is pus coming out, it will need regular changing. It sounds like you have been keeping a close eye on it, and it hasn't been infected long. It is possible there is something in there causing infection. If that is the case, the honey will draw it out as well as the pus. > > Fieldman > > > My child fell on the floor and got a gash on the underchin. > > > Well my almost two year old DD was playing on November 1st and fell > hard on the floor. Guest guest
There was a discussion awhile back about using 1M. I have never used it, so can't remember what the advice was there but I think you should be extremely careful about repeating it so often. That is a very potent dose. I have always used 30c with great results. Also, I know nothing about Steri strips. I would air that wound out or put a very loose bandage over it. I second the Vit. C (never used honey but that sounds good, too). I would also use Larix. It is a natural antibiotic that I use for many types of infections. However, I can't see your daughter's injury, so if you feel she needs to be seen, I wouldn't wait too long. You can bet they'll give her antibiotics, though. When I saw that you gave 1M and MORE than one pellet AND a dry dose, I almost keeled over!!!! 30c is probably more than adequate and it should be given in a liquid dose ONLY as needed. A few yrs ago I fell down the stairs on my butt and got a huge, purple bruise about the size of a basketball (I've got a big back end) ;-p I took 1M Arnica and couldn't figure out why it didn't help. I asked my homeopath. She told me that the higher the potency the more it works on emotional/mental issues rather than physical ones. She said I would have been much better off with the 30c potency. 1M Arnica is more for trauma, shock, etc.,--like if you've been in a terrible car accident or something *really* serious. And it should NEVER be given in a dry dosage--can cause a lot of aggravations. >I have always used 30c with great results. > My remedy kit w/ about 150 remedies is ALL 30c. I have one Arnica 30x for minor muscle soreness, a few 200c remedies that my homeopath gave me, more than a dozen LMs (from treating my animals over the years), and only three remedies in 1M that I got years ago. I have used them rarely. As for honey, try to get raw, unheated honey if you can source it at a HFS. This link might also help, but remember to use low potencies in a Medicinal Solution (water). http://www.simillimum.com/education/first-aid-room/index.php Bobbett

Guest guest
I was surprised at the use of 1M - I think It was labeled IMK so I suggested contacting the homoeopath regarding that. We have only ever used IM for serious ongoing agony of adhesions. All others have been 6c or 30c. Maracuja >There was a discussion awhile back about using 1M. Guest guest
hmmm I have always used it on wounds and even drops in the ears. A small amount will turn into water then evaporate quickly. Yes, some don't recommend it for the cells near the wound. But, I feel oxygenating the area is important to prevent infection including tetanus. I have never seen it do damage in tiny amounts.(I wouldn't keep using it over and over, however. Just when you first take off the bandage. If you can't soak in sea salt water, dab a bunch on as often as you can). . YOu have to weigh out the positives and the negatives of H202. I am glad DD is better! correy On Nov 4, 2008, at 1:30 AM, nirvana4freedom wrote: > Ok now I am really concerned. Guest guest
First, I use hydrogen peroxide but if you're unsure of it, then hold off. I know others have said the same thing about tissue damage recently on this list. You can probably do a search to see the discussion on it . Second, stitches are a good thing if the wound is big enough. If you're not sure, take her to a doctor. Last, I wouldn't use a doctor I've never met, especially one who is mysterious about what he's prescribing or how strong. How do you ask him about this? You ask him. I don't quite understand why you can't. Maybe it's time to get a doctor whom you can communicate with. Where do you live? Winnie Re: My child fell on the floor and got a gash on the underchin.
