My son's 5th grade teacher, and many other teachers distribute this little 'magazine' called TIME for kids. If you know anything about TIME magazine you know it's a total brainwashing tool. So this latest issue - California Wildfires, Mars, Seabelts, the Debate, and a whole page on " 'Flu Fighters' The Governments tells kids: Get vaccinated! " Did you get a flu shot last year? Even if you didn't, you may this year. For the first time the Center for Disease Control (DCD) is recommending that all children ages 6 months through 18 years receive the flu vaccine. In the past, the CDC suggested that only kids up to age 5 get the vaccine. Vaccines contain little bits of the germ that can make you sick. Your body's natural illness-fighting ability-the immune system-learns to make cells that attack the germ (See " Germ Hunters " ) Because there are many kinds of flu viruses, scientists must create a new vqaccine formula each year. Researchers must make a prediction " It it like forecasting the weather " says Dr. Geoffrey Weinberg of the University of Rochester. " Sometimes we are right on, and sometimes we are off " . Recent studies show that the nasal spray flu vaccine, known as FluMist, appears to be better at protecting kids from the bug than the injected vaccine (Big picture to the left of a kid getting a shot up the nose). In kids, the spray may help the immune system launch a broader defense, says Dr. Schaffner of Vanderbuilt University School of Medicine. So, the nasal vaccine seems to work better even when it's formula is not an exact match for the invading bug. " The flu vaccine is not as effective as the polio vaccine or the measles vaccine " , says Schaffner. " It's not a great vaccine, but it is quite a good vaccine " . Then below - " Germ Hunters " Chances are, you don't know anyone who has smallpox or polio. Thanks to vaccines, these serious diseases no longer threaten the United States. By the time U.S. kids are 7 years old, most have received at least 25 vaccines. Vaccines battle diseases caused by bacteria and viruses. A weakened form of the germ is introduced into the body. The body makes special substances called antibodies to fight the germ. If the actual germ were to attack, the antibodies would fight it. Smallpox was the first disease people tried to prevent by exposing a health person too a virus. In 1796, Dr. Jenner placed some infected material under a boy's skin. The boy became immune to smallpox. Polio reached a peak in the U.S. in the 1950's. Thousands of Americans got sick. Many kids lost the use of their leg muscles or the muscles that control breathing. The polio vaccine ended the crisis. (picture of another student getting an injection by Dr. Jonas Salk, the person who the 'first safe and effective vaccine for polio'. Then the kids were TESTED on this: Flu Facts Complete the pamphlet below to inform others about the flu vaccine. (Now they want kids to also tell others!) Use the story 'Flu Fighters' and 'Germ Hunters' on page 7 of the magazine to help you. Questions: How do vaccines work? In what year was the first vaccine developed? Name two diseases that no longer threaten the United States because of vaccines? By the time they are 7 years old, most kids in the U.S. have received at least _____ vaccines. According to the CDC, who should receive the flu vaccine? Does getting a flu vaccine guarantee that somebody won't get sick? explain. What are two ways for kids to get the flu vaccine? Why do doctors want more kids to get the flu vaccine? Besides getting the recommended vaccines, what else can kids do to stay healthy? What a brainwashing machine! And they assume this is ok to do at school?!? I would love to give it to this teacher(s). I'd appreciate some feedback and ideas on what info to use. Thank you, Liz ~~~ " The only safe vaccine is a vaccine that is never used " -- Dr. A. , National Institutes of Health ~~~A truth¢s initial commotion is directly proportional to how deeply the lie was believed...When a well-packaged web of lies has been sold gradually to the masses over generations, the truth will seem utterly preposterous and its speaker, a raving lunatic. Guest guest
It is infuriating. I tell my kids, the school is going to teach you things that they are told to teach you. The teachers probably even believe it. You can either arm yourself with the facts and straighten them out, or you can play along and pass the class. BUT you'd better also understand the truth as I tell it to you. I know they have been told these things, so I just asked my 16-yr-old what they told him. You'll be happy to know he has no recollection of ever being taught about vaccines, etc. in school. I said " and who knows the truth about them? " " You, Mom. " My husband snorted, but I am satisfied. So, don't be in too much despair over it. Winnie My son's school with propaganda Vaccinations > I can't believe this, well yes I can, but gets me mad. Guest guest
Does your son have to turn this " test " in as part of homework? Perhaps you could do his homework for him just this once... answer each question with facts, send information on Flumist, send her a copy of " The Vaccine Manual " by Neil Z. , or whatever intrigues you. At the very least, attach a note to it stating you feel this is brainwashing and you do not want your child to be a part of any further pro-vaccine propoganda. Who knows, maybe you'll educate her enough to at least respect your non-vax stance, or perhaps even spur her to find out more for herself. Guest guest
I would email the principal, vice principal, teacher, and school board reminding them that church/state must be separated - you view the " Vaccine Program " as a religion and it is not acceptable in your eyes because the school is not the place to impose religious beliefs. Am I wrong? I would also say that you personally know plenty of people whose children died or were injured " thanks to vaccines " too. Also, if they continue, you will be seeking legal assistance in this matter. > > I can't believe this, well yes I can, but gets me mad. Guest guest
Sympathy, . I can understand why you are so mad. My daughter (11) came home yesterday and said she nearly exploded at her teacher in class. They were having a spelling test and the teacher decided to use the word " vaccination " to illustrate her phonemic concept. Then she put it into a sentence: " Vaccination stops people getting terrible diseases .. My girl nearly piped up, but only having been there three weeks, she decided against it. Guest guest
You know... While I think the questions (and the expected answers to them) are stupid and while I probably would print them off and answer them myself with thoughtful answers and send them to the teacher as food for thought...I would just chalk this up in the category of " some things you have to learn and just spit the answer back on a test to pass a class " and move on. I mean I had to take calculus and hated it but I memorized it, spit it back up on a test and moved on - I also had to read some books that I hated and I had to take a position on and justify it in reports etc... Most people vaccinate - and that is entirely their right. While I hate the way it's taught in school that doesn't mean I won't teach my child what I believe about it and trust that as they get older they'll find their own truth. I wish more parents would at least educate themselves on what's in vax etc...instead of just trusting their docs 100% no matter what. I think that day is coming. I think we have to pick and choose our battles in everything in life - no way I'd take this past the teacher of the class and even then - it would be a more casual " you know there is a different side to the whole vax issue right? " No doubt this teacher thinks they are doing the right thing. As you guys can probably tell with the vax issue I am more of the " catch more flies with honey " approach than an all out assault to force my views on people. I mean who do we respect more in life - someone that lives their faith/beliefs/life in a quiet humble manner or the jokers knocking on our doors during dinner trying to convert us to their way? Just my thoughts. > > I would email the principal, vice principal, teacher, and school > board reminding them that church/state must be separated - you view > the " Vaccine Program " as a religion and it is not acceptable in your > eyes because the school is not the place to impose religious > beliefs. Guest guest
I agree Tracey, and although disturbed at this, my nature is to respond in a peaceful, yet intelligent manner. I feel this needs some kind of recourse though, and wanted to share/ask for some thoughts before doing so. I appreciate the responses. The schools need to be told we as parents want a balanced view taught, not one-sided brainwashing is all. And question why this is even being pushed in their faces, that they are carrying out a pharmaceutical agenda and is inappropriate in school in the first place....plus the exemption issues. Yes I teach my children the truth and that's what matters...believe me, tons of things roll of them every day because of that Liz > > > > I would email the principal, vice principal, teacher, and school > > board reminding them that church/state must be separated - you view > > the " Vaccine Program " as a religion and it is not acceptable in > your > > eyes because the school is not the place to impose religious > > beliefs. Guest guest
No. That is over the top. The vaccine program is not a religion (even though it is driven by faith, I'll give you that). To present it as one is only going to discredit you. To further threaten legal action, well, come on. What is that going to accomplish? You could talk to the teacher or principal in person (not email) if you feel that strongly about it. Ask that they use this as an opportunity to fully educate the children by at least mentioning that vaccines carry risks. Or offer to come in and do a talk on it. Better yet, why not go to the source, Time Magazine? I don't see this as much different than, for example, the schools teaching history in a biased manner. You wouldn't threaten them if they didn't change their curriculum on that. Just tell your children this is just like advertising. You don't have to buy the product, but people will continue to try to sell it to you.
