Knowing Winnie like I do, she wasn't meaning to be sarcastic. She

simply didn't expand on her thought. What she means is that it's too

late for a tetanus shot to do any good (assuming they work in the

first place) after the fact... as a correlation, getting the flu

vaccine will do nothing to protect you if you have already been

exposed to the flu and have started the incubation period. So " it's

too late " means it's too late for a tetanus shot to " protect " you.

Immunoglobulin would be given at the ER in the event you contract

tetanus at this point. However, homeopathy can effectively treat

tetanus, too.

That being said, the tetanus shot is very dangerous (as you already

know, since you've been personally damaged by it already) and as

someone posted previously, it is highly unlikely that you'd contract

tetanus from a small puncture wound that bled. The best prevention

for tetanus isn't the vaccine, but wound care. Let the wound bleed

(as you did), flush it with hydrogen peroxide, and they let the wound

breathe. Don't smother it with a petroleum based product like a

tripple antibiotic ointment or anything -- let it breathe.

i wouldn't even worry about it.

i haven't had a shot in decades. whenever i get hurt, i just make sure the

wound is clean. i never give it another thought anymore.

what makes you think you should worry? especially after your experience with

the shot?

I wasn't being sarcastic. It's too late. Vaccines are meant to prevent. If you

had it six years ago, it should still be working.

No reason to get all snotty with me.

Thanks, and good explanation. I didn't get into because I thought it was

obvious. Sorry.

And, by the way, I've had tetanus shots, too. I also vaccinated my older

children, and was about as uneducated as they come. You ought not to be making

assumptions about others. A simple " what do you mean? " would have sufficed.

Just to clarify. The establishment line is that tetanus toxoid does not need

to be repeated more often than every 10 years. Antibodies persist for that

long. As we all know, however, antibodies do not equal prevention. That

being said the tetanus vaccine does seem to work based on large studies in

horses and soldiers. If it has been more than 10 years since a booster, it

is conventionally recommended that you get a booster soon after an injury

and it (supposedly) will be preventive for that recent injury since tetanus

takes several weeks to develop. I would not get the shot now because you are

within the recommended time frame and you have had bad reactions in the

past.

That's okay--sorry I didn't elaborate. It's the curse of email and not being

able to read expressions.

I think you're going to be fine.

Don't worry.

The fact that you let it bleed was a good one.

Maybe, next time you can oxygenate it with a little peroxide.

I don't even think I was vaxed for tetanus. And I have hurt myself.

The fact that you are ok now...that alone, means you don't have an

issue. That is what Winnie was trying to say.

I don't think Winnie meant to be offensive.

FYI--it might help to put some calendula gel on it. I find that it stops the

pain from paper cuts when nothing else does, so will probably help your foot.

Also, homeopathic Ledum is good for puncture wound pain.
