Guest guest
The pediatrician called this morning, and both my 2 year old and 3 month old tested positive for pertussis. They are to continue on the antibiotics that they started on Wednesday. THEN, the doctor proceeded to tell me that myself, husband, and 5 and 10 year old sons ALSO have to start on the antibiotics. I said that my husband would, since he was the one who we assume contracted it first and passed it to the littles. But, why do myself and two sons need to take the antibiotics when we are not sick? She said it's a profylactic (sp) antibiotic, and we HAD to take it, or we WOULD get pertussis. My older two children were vaccinated as babies, so why would they need the meds as a PREVENTATIVE??????? She repeated that we all needed to take the antibiotics, or we would all get whooping cough. So what was the point of getting my kids vaxxed???? She is esentially telling me that the shots are ineffective, unless I'm mistaken. I cut off our phone conversationh, and phoned the pharmacy. I told them that my doctor would be calling in a prescription, but not to fill any of them except for the one for hubby. (He wants to take the meds himself). Thanks everyone, for your support and advice....I am feeling better about my decision, and hopefully after my two have finished thier antibiotics, they will feel better.
