They want to sell vaccines to the HUGE adult market They will tell you it is so you don't get pertussis and give it to your baby. (doesn't matter that there is tetanus and diphtheria in there also - diphtheria, a rare disease of poverty basically now; you vaccinated against tetanus will not protect your baby). All can harm you See my webpages on danger of tetanus vax http://www.wellwithin1.com/tetanus.htm this is just another way to sell their product and keep you in fear >i really don't want to get it, unless i have too....is this something >new? i don't recall getting a vaccine with my last birth (7 yrs ago) you don't have to get anything Put it in your birth plan and refuse any injections. Guest guest
Hi, . You do not have to get any vaccine of any kind. It is something fairly new that they are pushing this on new moms. It is for pertussis, but also for tetanus and diphteria. The push is for pertussis but as is typical, they lump other vaccines with it for no reason other than because they can. The reason is not to pass it along through breastmilk but to prevent you from getting pertussis and giving it to your baby. However, that is assuming that the vaccine works. Don't bet on it. It won't. If you don't want it (and neither would I), tell them AND put it in writing. I would never use a hospital pre-made birth plan--never heard of such a thing. By definition it would be your plan because you are the one giving birth, so make your own. You are the customer. You make the rules. Don't let them force you into anything. Guest guest
When I went to to deliver my second child I was told by the dr that they would be giving me that shot after the baby was born. I stressed about it for months wondering how I was going to get out of it. But when I went in to deliver the nurse handed me some paperwork to fill out and there was a space on the sheet and I wrote down that I did not want any shot at all and told the nurse what I had put. I was never asked about it and the dr never bothered me about it either. So put it in writing and tell them hopefully they will not give you a hard time. Good Luck! Guest guest
They didn't offer this to me, thank goodness. You don't have to do anything.. if not doing it is a 10 to you, then fight against it Nita (crew chief) and the crew: 15, Jon 13, 11, 9, 7, Christian (7/16/03 to 8/22/04), 2 and Isaac, 2/3/08 http://momof6.dotphoto.com <http://momof6.dotphoto.com/> for not necessarily current pictures http://nitasspot.blogspot.com Learn from the mistakes of others. Guest guest
Nice--they just announced to you that you would get it. Good for you to be aware enough at the time to refuse it. I wonder how many women are given this automatically. Guest guest
sneaky of them! good thing you know before you're in labor! I would also stress to your partner or whoever will be at the birth with you that these are your wishes and for them to stay VIGILANT that you don't get anything you don't want! I would not put anything pass the hospital/pharma co - there is big profit to be made on this and if they're already advertising in baby mags, they will pursue every victim possible. mabel
Guest guest
- DO NOT agree to getting any vaccines postpartum, especially if you are planning to breastfeed. There is no evidence of Tdap being safe in pregnant or nursing women. There is in fact question of whether immunization of the mother will interfere with immunity of the infant (presuming you will be giving your infant the routine schedule of vaccines). Similarly, if you are rubella non-immune, do not allow vaccination prior to leaving the hospital. I am a family practice doc who does obstetrics. My hospital recently has added the Tdap to routine discharge orders. My nurses know that I specifically to not wish any of my patients to have this. I am not allowing Hep B to be given to my newborns either, unless of course the mom or close contacts have Hepatitis B. Where I practice there is a very low prevalence of this. My view is not particularly popular among my peers. However I recently was told by the OB nurses that my partners have stopped giving Hep B at birth as well (that was a very pleasant surprise!) All of God's blessings with your delivery and new baby!!!!!! Guest guest
Gayl, THAT is awesome that you and other medical professionals here are in our group - we need more docs like you!! Glad to have you here on these posts - I can imagine the difficulty you have with peers but I am very proud you all that you are speaking up and helping others to speak up and revealing the truth! Thank you!!! mabel
Guest guest
Gayl, Bless you for this. It is a small step in a large battle but those babies are being spared for even the small chance (assuming the ped will push the vaxes) that you are giving them. It gives me hope within the medical community to hear of a proactive doc.
