I believe though that getting whooping cough does not make you

immune, you can still get it over and over...is this right?

What is the best way to prevent whooping cough in an infant? My sis

has a 10 day old and they are saying that whooping cough is going

around in the city. My sis is breastfeeding...anything else that

could help? Thanks.

Anyone who has been vaccinated or has suffered from whooping cough

will have a degree of immunity to the disease. They may contract a

mild case some years later but this will not develop into a full-

blown attack. From

Plus, even if you vaccinated at 2, 4, and 6 months, they

aren't " fully protected " until they've had all 4 of them, the final

one being at 15 months. Am I correct? And when I say " fully

protected " I'm quoting doctors. Ha. Ha. So if this is true and it

really did work, then even vaccinating an infant, won't " protect "

him or her until about 15 months, right? And by that age, I would

think it wouldn't be as dangerous. Someone correct me if I am

misinformed.

Good point. The final one is around age five. So, it's even longer until they

are " protected. " Then why bother? They're past the age where it's a concern.

You were close.

The CDC says it takes three doses for most to be " immune " . So,

supposedly they'd have full protection by six months. The thing is,

though, most deaths occur in those <6 months, so they are out of the

biggest danger zone by then.

Re: Vida Khan said " What is the best way to prevent whooping cough in

an infant? "

I'd say vitaminc C to bowel tolerance if she is really worried. Try

checking out the motheringdotcommune vaccination forums. Some Moms have

talked about their experiences with it in the archives I think.

As I've posted on here a few times, my nephew was fully vaxed and shows

no immunity to pertussis (according to their definition). He also has

autism.

He played by the rules and got burned AND has no immunity.
