Guest guest
Hello I was GBS Positive with my firsborn...10 yrs ago. I was given antibiotics during my quick labor...4 hours but my son still gor GBS and was in the hospital for 10 days. He ended up getting the infection and was quite sick.He recovered with no problems and is fine. Funny thing is I went on to have 3 more kids and was GBS Negative with all 3...go figure. Good Luck! Kim mom to 4 boys Chicago YIKES -- I'm GroupStrep B Positive Again. This is my 2nd baby due in a few weeks, and w/the first baby 2 years ago, I didn't know any better and let them give me penicillin. This time aorund I am glad that am more educated on the topic, but I am still at a loss as to what to do. I know that I definitely don't want to take the antibiotics. But I am also scared to put my baby at risk, even though it's a very small percentage. I also spoke to my midwife about this and she said there were some suppositories I can do, but what's on my chart is there to stay, even if they re test me. I am searchinf for support in this issue. I am already 38 weeks pregnant, and am not so sure if I have enough time to even try to clear this up. --
Guest guest
I have friends who swear by garlic for this... I know you're close to your due date, but it can't hurt to try. Of course, if your water breaks, don't do it anymore. Peel a garlic clove, but leave it whole. Wrap it in some cheese cloth and secure it with a string, then insert it like a tampon. Leave overnight (I called a friend to ask how long, she stated the longer the better, but change daily). Do this every day for a couple of weeks. You're in my thoughts! Good luck. Guest guest
I am 34 weeks and have started inserting garlic already and have tripled my probiotics - unfortunately, I think I'm having a bit of a die-off reaction =( But worth it if I test negative. What kind of suppositories are they talking about giving you? I'm very interested in any alternatives. Melinda C. in Mass.
Guest guest
I second this! I was + for my first pregnancy, but for my second I did a garlic/probiotic treatment BEFORE the test and I can back neg. A mom on another board did this: *1.) Tea Tree oil, after bathing, insert clean Q-tip into oil- then swab perinium area and move to the back area...'ya know? Some then insert it " back there " for a moment- I was very determined, so I did too. It just feels tingly, like mint or something. It doesn't hurt. Once per day. 2.) Echinacea 2-350 mg caps daily *3.) 2 oral Lactobacillus Acidophilous caps daily, (4 billion cells dose) also, one inserted vag at night. 4.) Vit E- 400 MIU/Day *5.) Vit C 500-1000 mg per day The ones marked * are the ones that I did in addition to the nightly garlic. Google alternative GBS treatments and it will help. You can push to have the doctor retest closer to due date b/c GBS comes and goes. If you do the garlic/probiotic treatment you can be pretty sure that the colonization is either gone or greatly reduced. In tests garlic kills yeast infections, too. If the doctor doesn't want to retest, you can have it don't yourself at a lab and then you can be more comfortable refusing the ABX. There are also vaginal washes that can be used while in labor. If you are still GBS+ : No internal exams after (A)ROM or limit them before water breaks/is broken to keep bacteria from being spread into the birth canal more than what it may already be. -Kristi > > I have friends who swear by garlic for this...
