Guest guest
For mother's day I took a monetary gift from my mother-in-law and subscribed to Parents. Last week I received the first issue (and luckily the bill that I haven't paid yet) with a cover headline of " The Worried Mom's Guide To Baby Vaccines " . So naturally I skipped through and went right to that article. It was entitled " Why Babies Need Shots " . It was a very biased article that made me angrier with each word. The sentence that got me the most was, " And study after study has shown that the vaccines your children receive are safe. " Even if they don't believe the connection between vaccine and serious developmental disorders all vaccines carry a list of side effects. Now, I don't expect to see an article in a magazine like that to be against vaccination but this was an anti-vaccine article that portrayed itself as a GUIDE. To me that implies giving you the information and letting you make your own decision. So needless to say I will not be subscribing to the magazine and I am currently working on a letter to write to them explaining why. It really is too bad because I was just looking for some fun reading that could help me with age appropriate book choices and birthday party themes. So much for that! I found the article on their website (the link is below), it is the same except for the intro. In the magazine it starts with the cases of measles, whopping cough, and mumps that occurred last year in the US. They mentioned the cases of mumps in Maine last winter which I do recall. I live in Maine and I remember being on my lunch break (at a private center that works with children with Autism) when the subject came up. One co-worker said it was the fault of all those parents who don't vaccinate because they are afraid of Autism. The rest of the group joined in. I of course opened my mouth and went on to share all of the reasons one would chose not to vaccinate. I was attacked for my personal views and my only response was that I don't criticize them for vaccinating but wished they had bothered to inform themselves prior to making their decision. I know this was a little of topic but I still need to vent 6 months later. Guest guest
Good for you about speaking up. You will find that you get stronger with each conversation. If the topic of mumps ever comes up again, be sure to add that a study in 1992 consisting of 180 European doctors concluded that the mumps vaccine can trigger diabetes in certain predisposed individuals as much several months later. The FDA's response was " yes, certain viruses can trigger diabetes in certain individuals!! " (the mumps is part of the live-virus MMR) How much does lifetime treatment cost for a person with diabetes and what are the odds that one will recover from mumps with no lasting damages?? Not to mention the risk of Autism with the MMR too. The risks definitely outweigh the benefits for yet another vaccine that is supposedly so safe and effective. > > For mother's day I took a monetary gift from my mother-in-law and > subscribed to Parents. Guest guest
i read the second article, and it said that thimerosal was removed and autism rates still increased since 2001. how do we know they really took out the mercury? or i read that they don't have to put it on the ingredient list if it's considered in " trace amounts " . is this true???? > > > > For mother's day I took a monetary gift from my mother-in-law and > > subscribed to Parents. Guest guest
Becky, I get Parents free every month, and it goes straight from my mail box to the trash bin. I can't stand the viewpoints in that trash mag at all. If you're looking for a good magazine for some fun reading as well as truly informed articles, try Mothering Magazine. www.mothering.com. I get it in both print and online, and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it. Even my hubby reads it. In fact, he read it to me cover-to-cover yesterday in the car as we were traveling to our sightseeing destinations. Guest guest
It's trash in my house too. If not for the simple reason that all their little articles about behavior and milestones don't apply when you're trying to raise a vaccine damaged child, right? > > For mother's day I took a monetary gift from my mother-in-law and > > subscribed to Parents. Guest guest
Or, for that matter, a vaccine-free child! Their take on nutrition also sometimes lacks wisdom, IMO. Guest guest
What about writing on them, *Refused, return to sender*? I do that with credit card offers and I think they have to pay for return postage too. -Kristi > > LOL!! , i do the same thing. When i saw last month's issue on vaccines i almost puked.
