Guest guest
Hi gang. I have been lurking here the last few weeks and now I can say I am an official member of the club ! We have been dealing with a mite infestation since early June - started with blacks specs on bedding, clothing and skin - itchy scalps, ears, noses, progressed to bites almost everywhere and now it mostly presents as creepy crawlies and occasional spots. During our mite induction we saw three doctors, had skin biopsies, scrapings, taken prem. as well as iver and the list goes on. After being told we didn't have scabies or lice or fleas or anything else a bug sample we sent to Clemson finally came back yesterday and was identified as bird mites (northern fowl mite). I am exhausted mentally and physically. I have been telling folks from the beginning that we had both birds nests and a few rats (we live on the edge of a nature preserve which backs up to a golf course in SC so it's humid and creature filled) removed from our home (and our house sealed up) but all I kept hearing was that bird mites were soooo rare and I even had one entomologist tell me that they never infect humans. On the one hand i am so happy that we finally know what's going on....on the other hand I am scared to death we won't beat this thing. We've been spraying with Cyonarra and Nylar every 7 days...I've got menthol crystals going, my laundry protocol is in place and furniture has been sealed. Terminix is coming to spray tomorrow - I believe they are using something called Spectrum...I want the house fumigated with Vikane gas but they won't go that far ...yet. This was our dream home and now it has turned into a nightmare. I have two kiddos - ages 8 and 10. Both my daughter and I have experienced MAJOR hair loss.....I used to have long thick blonde hair and now I've got a few wisps....I believe they attempt to nest in my hair or something because I find these large tangles. How do I get them out of my hair? In addition to terminix, we are seeing a new infectious disease dr on Monday - what meds have worked for all of you? Ivermectin def. does help us but then with our enviornment we end up getting bad again. Has anyone every had any luck with the PCO's? Should I expect a miracle or fear the worst? What supplements should I add to our diet - I currently take fish oil, garlic and bioten......What about the car? The car seems like ground zero...of course we were driving it when we were way worse since we didn't know what we had for so long - I've tried spraying it with windex, raid, DE, epsom salts - you name it I have done it. It's been steam cleaned, as well. Did anyone get rid of their car and get a new one once you started to heal? I could not pass this car off to someone...what do we do - junk a 2007 suv because of mites? I realize I am rambling. Please know how much I appreciate any and all support. I've got lots of questions and big fears. I hope when we come out the other side to some day be able to support others like myself who are just starting down this awful path - I wish everyone here health and peace!
