Consuming the chemical calcium hypochlorite (MMS2) is dangerous.

On Jim Humble's site, it is suggested to purchase and consume pool shock products (MMS2/calcium hypochloirite) and to "Don't let the terrifying cautions on the pouch of Calcium Hypochlorite scare you away" (from http://jimhumble.biz/biz-mms2intro-eng.htm). Ignore "Poison" and "Corrosive"?

A typical pool shock product's LD50 (lethal dose) rating for rats is 850mg/kg. Using that figure, 50% of 75 kg (165 lb) people would die from consuming 64 grams (2 ounces) of Calcium Hypochlorite (MMS2). See this MSDS for calcium hypochlorite for evidence: http://www.commercialaquaticsupplies.com/msds%20files/calcium%20hypochlorite.pdf

I can imagine that permanent tissue damage would occur at consuming much lower levels.

Lynn This is MMS2 not MMS1. It is pool shock humble announced this last year. Calcium hypochlorite when activated with water makes hypochlorous acid. I bought mine at ace hardware for $15.00http://jimhumble.biz/biz-mms2intro-eng.htm> >> > Anu water, what are the ingredients? Hypochlorous acid, MMS2 folks. But my mms2 cost $15.00 for a years supply.> > http://jimhumble.biz/biz-mms2intro-eng.htm> > > > HClO: Anu contains trace amounts of hypochlorous acid—a weak, and non-toxic oxy-chloro molecule. As an antibacterial, it is unparalleled; the EPA has recognized its action against protozoans, bacteria, mold, fungi, and viruses. It is a safely consumable solution that destroys E. coli, Salmonella, Staphylococcus, mold, and fungi on contact. In low concentrations, hypochlorous acid has an unsurpassed effect upon the bio-terrain. Testimonials from our customers verify that Anu's slight chlorine flavor is counterbalanced by the numerous health behttp://www.espbotanicals.com/buy_Anu.htmlnefits derived from drinking Anu

Water.>
