Lynn,

When my daughter is having a real hard SI day and in need of a lot of

sensory stuff, glue is one that we use. I also use it a lot when I

notice she is picking. We have been dealing with her biting her nails

sooooo bad, that I find glue helps. But I also am going to try to put

on gloves on her to help the biting.

I thought about something similar once, when I noticed my daughter was painting

clear nail polish on her arms and then picking it off, but my concern was that

by allowing her to pick anything off her skin it was just stimulating the " need

to pick " behavior. So instead I've tried to reinforce incompatible behaviors

that address the sensory need w/o involving body or hair picking. Believe it or

not, pulling weeds was a good one! Although I had to make her do it I noticed

she likes it and even made comments about how it was like picking in a way,

though I hadn't told her that was part of why I made her do it. Pulling " pills "

off a sweater is another one.

Dear Kathy,

Jenna is going to have out patient/? inpatient in the hospital. She

is going to have blood work/chest x-ray before the surgery. She is

going to have 9 or more impacted teeth removed. She will have a heart

monitor/and I.V.'s along with of course pain. We will need her to

have a liquid diet then full liquids. She is going to be out of

school for several days, and have a very swollen and bruised face.

I am having extreme difficulty in getting anything from the school.

We don't have picture cards or anything other than some ideas of what

to do to help her communicate.

Please send what ever to my son's e-mail.(- Grabko)

Thanks again you are great!

Hi Lynn,

I think your district likes to hear themselves talk and was hoping to confuse

you. It doesn't matter what their reason was as long as you got the services.

I bet your glad that's over. I did know that Luvox can cause aggressiveness

in some people. Zeb actually told me the pills made him mean but I am not

sure if he even understands that or he was telling me what I wanted to hear.

Im thinking that when the doctors say the the stills rash doesnt happen on

your face, that they are talking about the actualy splotchy and raised rash

that occours on the trunk and limbs, and they are only going by the research

on it which says it's uncommon. But now the permantly red you are talking

about seems to happen with alot of us, or basically we get flushed real

easy. My face turns bright red every night around the same time, but it

doesnt look exactly the same as the rash becasue it isnt splotchy it's red

all over, then it goes away, but if I get in the sun I do it too. I think

it is related to the rash or even the rash itself just manifesting

differently in the face. Why the hell doctors wont come to this list and

just take a compilation of our symptoms, they would find things like the red

face and the feeling that you have a fever and you really dont, and some

other things.

GO DAWGS !!!!!

Lori,

Thank you so much. Actually, I can see the positives in this all even on my

worst days. If nothing else this illness has really made me develop my

relationship with God and see what is really important in life. I was so caught

up before in climbing the corporate ladder and being perfect at everything I

did, now that just does not matter. The disease has also brought me back to

art. I have always been talented, but stopped doing anything after high school.

Now I am hoping to supplement my income with the art that I do.

Thanks again for your support!!

>Lynn-My heart goes out to you girl!!! I felt so lost, sooo agrivated and soooo

hopless during the year of illness I endured before I was diagnosed and

successfully treated. If what you have is Still's or not, I don't know, but

please keep your spirits up! No matter what it is there will come a day for

answers. The dust will clear and you'll be able to look back on all the time of

suffering and questions and see clearly. I felt every emotion there is while I

was ill. Eventually I just cryed all the time, with a fever, unable to move,

I'd just ball! But even in my tears I would ask God for help and hope. He

always got me through it, and now I'm almost glad I have this disease. Sounds

crazy, but It's tought me so much about life, and it's given me the gift of

thankfullness. Before this, a bad day was getting regular coffee when I asked

for decaff- the most trivial things would make me complain. Now a GREAT day

means WALKING!!! Means NO FEVER!!! Maybe your still to deep in pain or worry to

see this, but just keep trying, never give up hope, and eventually you will get

there. I am thinking of you and praying for answers soon. Lori in Ca.

Lynn,

This disgusts me!!!!! First of all, I'm appalled the police said

that??? I believe there's a law suit there as well. How do you deal with

the anger???? Good thing that teacher isn't in the same state...I'd want to

personally slam her against a wall.

I understand the pressures of working with special needs kids (Hell, any

kids....just ask inner city Philly public school teachers what their days can

be like), but there's a clear line between snapping from a bad day and abuse.

Wasn't there anyone else in the room to say STOP!!!! No other aides,

adults, nothing? If not, there's something seriously wrong there too.

{{{{{{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}}}}}}}} I honestly don't know how parents survive

this stuff.

Donna,

There were no other adults in the room at the time. It turned out that

this teacher was verbally and psychologically abusing these children for

several years. A few aides complained but nothing was done. When she did

not get an administration job that she wanted, she began getting physical --

when the aides were not in the room. The children were terrified to tell.

Several are in counseling now. My daughter had done nothing wrong.

I did not mean to imply that all special needs teachers would get burned

out, but there is a much higher incidence of turnover in this area than any

other. They are underpaid, and overworked; and have a burden of paperwork.

We have challenges with our one or few; imagine a class full! My point was

that everyone needs to watch for signs of burnout, before it affects our

children.

Thanks for the Hug! I needed that! {{{{{{{{{{Huggs to YOU}}}}}}}}}}}

Sure, I understand Lynn. Put together that combo and you're bound to lose

good people and bring in the bad. I hope your little girl recovered

emotionally from all that.

I just saw your post about the sore throat and ear ache..and the

bladder...your case sounds like mine !!Actually sometimes the sore throat is

really the

trachea(wind pipe) if I touch my throat where the wind pipe is...that is

exactly

what hurts.. I know that can irritate the cartilage in the ear.. glucosamine

and chondritin ( over the counter meds for osteo arthritis) helped me?? Ask

your doc if you can try it..also ask him..but I take 2 acidophyllus 2 or 3

times

a day...yogurt is good too....I am sorry you are suffering..I would love to

kick that dragon to another universe!! (((((Lynn ))))).Love Liz NJ...ps I

also

get sore throats alot that are relieved by antibiotics.. I have one now..not

the trachea kind..the regular kind ????

Hi Lynn, sorry to hear that you are still hurting. Is it hot where you are

at? My feet feel like I am walking on hard stones, all I do is hobble around

also. I think mine is caused from the 80+ degree weather we've been having, but

still no visible swelling or redness. I am hoping that when it cools down

tomorrow I can get out and do more.

Take care my friend, hugs

Lynn mine pretty much stayed although it did become more prominent in the

evening and lighter in the mornin. The one on the back took the longest to

disappear its acually still there but barly visable now.It is a ugly bugger isnt

it but i was more worried bout the pain than the rash cause it never seemed to

bother me except appearance wise and i coulda cared less eh.Im not sure lynn the

dermatoligists acually came to the conclution to treat my rash as a fungal or

yeast infection (but it wasnt even at the time i was smart enough to kno that

but still tried the medication course it was no help).Maybe sum1 else knos of

sumthin that helps with the rash but mine just went away when it decided too

kinda like all the other things with Stills has a mind of its own.You take care

ok rest those weary joints unpack when u feel better. d.Canada

its mostly gone now.Sorry ur havin bad time of it,it does take awhile to ajust
