Guest guest
I was wondering if anyone has tried this shampoo and how helpful has it been? I've only tried Denorex and I don't know whether it helps because right after showering the mites are all over me again. They seem to be very attracted to the body when its wet; it's so frustrating. Then I tried the sulfodene (yes, the dog shampoo that's recommended in the birdmites.org site) and it does seem to help, but again, only while in the shower. Lately the mites have been jumping in and burrowing while I shower, which makes me wonder if showering might leave me with more mites than before.. I had to protect my feet by wearing a pair of plastic shoes (I have a pair of crocs) and I filled them up with sulfodene. First time in days that the mites didn't bite my feet during my shower. It takes me about 3 hours to shower considering the amount of cleaning I need to do to kill all the mites that hide/camouflage all over the bathroom. I am just too horrified of going in knowing that I will come out with more mites than before. And last, I am shocked that the mites don't seem to mind coconut oil in my scalp/face & body. I filled my scalp with coconut and applied some to my face and it made no difference, I could still feel them all over me. They used to never get in my face, but recently they've been doing it a lot, especially while I'm trying to sleep. If anyone's tried that shampoo mg217, sulfodene, or coconut oil, I'd like to hear what your experience has been like. And also whether that new sulfure soap from esp botanicals everyone raves about is worth the price. Thanks! Guest guest
Hi Jess, I rotate shampoos, using Denorex 2 in 1 medicated, yes to carrots shampoo with tea tree oil added, and either selsun blue medicated or head & shoulders in the blue bottle (formulas with selenium sulfide). Of these the selsun blue selenium sulfide ones work best when I really need to take them out..but it feels a little toxic to me with too regular of use. There are a few new ones I'd like to try including Desert Essence therapeutic shampoo, and Keys MetaCare because I've used their other products with success, but can't speak from experience about the shampoos yet. www.dessertessence.com and www.keys-soap.com . When my problem was really bad I had what you are experiencing in the shower. Really hated that! Two things really improved that for me: 1. arm and hammer makes a shower cleaning spray that has bleach in it (and presumably some baking soda, although they don't list the ingredients). Cleaning with a diluted bleach solution, followed with dry baking soda application is the method usually recommended to do away with black mold and fungus. After using many things on my tile floors and bathroom I used this method, and WOW, it was silence from the mites. I still had some on my body and in my feet, but this helped a lot. 2. For soap in the shower, fill a spray bottle with half warm water and half hydrogen peroxide(3% kind from the drugstore), then 3-4 tablespoons full of arm and hammer powdered detergent mixed in. Spray all over yourself before showering, then use as a soap. You can use this a lot at first, but eventually only have to use it occaisionally. I now just use Grisi sulphur soap in the shower and an occaisional bath with 3/4cup of the detergent and 3/4 cup of hydrogen peroxide and a few drops of whatever essential oil I like. I'm not sure what the relationship is with fungus, mold and mites, but it seemed to me that the things that wiped out fungus and mold, also helped wipe out mites. good luck! Guest guest
Have you tried the epsom salt treatment - after showering, pouring a strong mix of epsom salts and water over your head and body? It kills them and when the mix dries on your body (dry it on with a hair dryer) it seems to keep them off. > > I was wondering if anyone has tried this shampoo and how helpful has it been? > > I've only tried Denorex and I don't know whether it helps because right after showering the mites are all over me again. Guest guest
Yes, I tried this a few times and it does seem to help the kill off organisms on the outside of the body, except feet for me. I did use a hairblower too. When this was at its worst, I tried it a few times and walked around with crusts of epson salt in my hair and all over the body. Fortunately I didn't have to go out anywhere, but as I recall, it was very drying to the skin. Re: Has anyone tried the MG217 shampoo with 3% coal tar? Guest guest
Hi Jess I haven't used the shampoo u mentioned, any of them , only selsun blue the 'daily' version . It helps a lot I applied top of head to toe , let sit for2-8 mins & rinse ( I did use denorex coal tar shampoo once, it also helped but is petroleum based ) . A bath in 1 cup borax & 1/4 cup dawn dish soap to drown the floaters , for 30 mins works the best on head & body . Then I rinse , put a little water in the tub , maybe 1/3 tub , add 2 tbls coconut oil & dip in around for & few mins , then get out , it coats you well & smothers bug & clogs up their travel plans .. When the mites get into the bathroom I spray 1 cup, Dawn dish soap & 5 cups of water & leave it for 1 hrs - 1 month lol ..? ... I spray the cieling walls & floors totally , it stops them instantly & drowns them in the sticky soap. It all rinses right off & wet vacs right up with a nice 2 gallon Chapin brand garden sprayer from ace hardware , $10.00 . for the tub/shower I squeeze 2 tbls dawn on the shower floor while showering & slosh it around to stop all foot biters , it works everytime . I keep the dawn bottle in the tub , or I mix it 1 cup , Dawn dish & 5 cups of water in a windex bottle , Dawn never fails to kill any bug , I spray whole bee hives with it & they all die in 20 seconds, it plugs their spyricals ( breter holes on their sides) .I work on roofs & chimneys & many places that have many bugs I have to clear before working . The bathroom is best if it is kept with out clutter also keep tables clear & soak with epsom salts after washing . All my dirty clothes I keep in a rubbermaid garbage can with a lid that I spray dawn in & on , especially when I am loading my clothes pot to boil them in . Boiling is so sure , Then wash in machine w/ arm & hammer powdered laundry soap , & hang to dry in my streile bathroom . I use a hair dryer to help dry them , hair dryers cost 6.9 per hr to run it on medium ( 1 kilo wat hrs is 6.9 cents it says on the electric bill , med setting is 1000 wats usually , that is cheaper than a dryer , I don't trust dryers . I dont even like to be near them, they seem buggy . I soak th entire laundry room in 1 cup arm & hammer powdered laundry soap & 2 gallons of water weekly , it kills all of them . If the matress has bugs they get back on my head , so I sleep on an air materss that has been deflated , soaked in arm & hammer powdered laundry soap 1 cup per 5 gallon bucket for 15 mins to 8 hrs with old chlorox bottles on them to submerge the air matress , then layed out in the tub /shower , rinsed with the shower on for 3 mins , then held up & rinsed well while I stand behind the shower curtain reaching over the rod standing on a chair to stay dry. Then let drip dry for 5 min, spray wood floor in the bedroom with 1/2 cup borax, & 1/2 cup epsom , & 2 oz of coconut oil , place air matress on the sprayed area , mist the air matress & set a hair dryer on a 5 gallon bucket lid ( to keep dryer off floor & water ) pointing at the air matress to dry. , then reinflate 10 mins later w/ the hair dryer on cool shot .......... Woa ... I do all that ... I can't belive it , I never wrote out the whole thing ... What a life , but I don't get bit while I sleep. . : ) Lord willing I am getting turbo heaters & heat treat this house to 170 degrees like zooks did , 3 saturdays in a row , this is just too much work daily .. Zooks killed the all with heat treating w/ turbo heaters in the windows & thermometrs in the windows to monitor heat .. Guest guest
You are very welcome Jess. I hope you are doing better. The Epson salts is one of the first things I tried and although it may not kill them, it does seem to help. Shower or bath first, take an old quart sized bottle, fill it with warm water and dissolve epson salts in huge quantities into the bottle. Stir or shake to dissolve the crystals. After you have towel dried, pour this all over your body, hair and take hair dryer and dry it on your body. If you can stand it on you all day, you rock. I could only tolerate about 4 hours of this, but it really helps temporarily. Always use warm water because the cold is just too shocking. Re: Has anyone tried the MG217 shampoo with 3%coal tar?
