Hi I have struggled with some type of microscopic mite for a long time now. For a long time we didn't even know there was such a thing until the pest controller told us. Since then we have been able to manage it better but haven't gotten rid of them yet. Whatever the type of mite is it is totally microscopic. They leave little red bites. The seem to be like dust mites that bite. Its not as bad as the black ones that go internal some of you have but still it's pretty horrible. Pyrethrin didn't work only slowed them down a bit, we had the house sprayed 4 times and I'm not doing it again. Washing everything with borax works for a while. But we have a big house and the ceilings cant be reached without a ladder so it's nearly impossible to stay on top of it with our schedules. I have

found a place that is going to send me a quote for identifying

the species after I send in a sample. Has anyone else done this in the uk or ireland? If so where and how

much should I expect to pay. Also I think I am going to buy some dehumidifyers. Has anyone else had success with this approach?thanks

Hi -- I recall two people in this group reporting that they eradicated

their mites by using dehumidifiers -- Jeff Teeter and Stan Loe. Here is the

I cannot locate Jeff Teeter's post.

If you know where the mites are coming from, you can use diatomaceous earth (DE)

to stop them. If you have small children or pets, food grade DE is best.

Otherwise, you can use baited DE. DE can be purchased at a farm supply store,

or the gardening section of a hardware store. I have a moat of DE around the

perimeter of my dwelling. It needs to stay dry in order to be effective.

Dehumidfying isn't feasible for me either because I live in a very warm and

humid place with sky high electricity rates.

The solution that you're going to spray sounds effective, but will probably make

a big white mess of the interior of your home. Here is an environmental spray

recipe that someone posted awhile back. I have not tried it myself:

Environmental Spray

BASE FOR ENVIRONMENTAL SPRAY:

8 ounces commercial cedarwood essential oil

Optional: other essential oils, 1 ounce each

1 gallon witch hazel

1 liter bottle of Vodka, strongest you can buy

Mix above ingredients together. This is your base.

MIXING OF THE SPRAY:

Mix one cup of the base with one gallon of water. Spray your home with the

environmental spray. Wear a respirator and goggles.

You can add borax, salt or baking soda if you wish, but it will turn everything

white.

The spray that worked for me, but not for most other people, is Cedarcide's Best

Yet Insect Spray. I do not strongly recommend it because it's costly and many

people report that it didn't work for them.

I had a chicken mite and collembola infestation. What I especially liked about

the Cedarcide product was that it didn't make a mess. The base is a latex

solution, not water. It leaves no residue and seems to be anti-static. Over

time I have come to realize that using products with anti-static properties

makes a huge difference. I believe borax has anti-static properties and that

may be why it helps so many people.

I didn't try boric acid or borax on the ground. I have two cats so I didn't

want to use boric acid. I never thought to use borax. I bought a 35 pound bag

of DE, and I've got plenty of it.

Good luck. I hope you get rid of the mites soon. This time of year seems to be

peak mite season.

I suspect that the dehumidifiers take more than water from the air. I mean, it

sucks the air through and probably drags along other things from the air (mold

spores, dust, etc). Just something I've wondered about off and on and thought

I'd throw that out.

Be careful with the boric acid. It's a neuro-toxin. I'm sorry you had to give

up your dog, and the hens.

I did a thorough steam-cleaning of my floors and baseboards before I sprayed. I

was assuming there were nests and eggs behind the baseboards and the hot steam

would cook the eggs. Another poster said they removed their baseboards and put

caulk or putty to seal up the area between the flooring and baseboard.

What kind of test did you do to check your adrenals? When I first went to my

local intern/integrative medicine doc, she said I had adrenal insufficiency.

She concluded that through observing something with my eyes.

That was the beginning of 2008, and I had been terrified for months - not at all

surprising, considering how much adrenaline I'd been pumping.

When I removed one of my baseboards, I was surprised at how much space there was

between the flooring and drywall, so I believe it was well worth the time and

effort that your husband expended to apply putty to those cracks. What an ideal

dark hiding spot for mites to sleep and lay their tiny eggs. I steam cleaned

and sprayed the cracks two years ago, and seem to be okay.

I hope you are not in adrenal burn out, because that is serious and practically

irreversible. Maybe it's adrenal fatigue or exhaustion, not burn out. You

should be able to slowly regain your health if you find the right course and

stick with it for a few years. It sounds like you're heading in the right

direction.

When I reduce the amount of Opaline, I will get an occasional sting in my feet

(1-2 a week). When I bring it back up, it stops. The stings don't bother me,

though.

I try to take 2,000 mg, but often forget the second dose. There's some in my

Hi Bessie,

How much Dry Oxy do you take each day and when. Dr. S told us to be careful not

to take it too late in the day so that it won't keep us awake. I've been trying

to take 2 capsules 3 times a day, but I may up it... Do you take it with meals,

with vit C?

Hi, Zoe -

I've never noticed any difference when I take it. I WISH it would wake me up!

I take it very early in the morning, on an empty stomach with just water. I lie

down again & watch the news in bed, sometimes fall back to sleep.

I try to always take it on an empty stomach - early afternoon again. Sometimes

early evening, but I usually forget that one.

I used to take 2 at a time, but increased it to 3. Then I heard she was telling

folks 4 at a time, so now I take 4. So if I miss the 3rd dose it doesn't matter

so much.

I know they say you can take it with food, but my sense is it is going to

interact with what's in your stomach rather than being absorbed relatively

unchanged. Could be wrong, though!

Is there any danger in taking too many Dry Oxy caps? are there adverse effects

for too much?

It sounds like 4 capsules 3 times per day may be a good thing for me to try. I

still get about 1 bite-like thing a day. Most of the time I barely notice

them... unless they are in my ears and then I get so bummed and want to cry as

those last for days and days with me.

I got ear wax out the other day and with the microscopic I saw that the wax had

bright a couple blue and red microscopic fibers embedded in it in it and lots of

long thin branching black microscopic fibers in it too.

Truthfully, I don't absolutely know the answer to that question. I have not

noticed any problems with it, but like many things something could be going on,

unfelt, that might not be good.

I will be talking with Dr. Staninger soon and will ask her, but I would expect

her to say " no problems " - I will, however, ask for details on how it works.
