Once she turns 7, you have 10 days to file with the board of education and must do so by 10/1 of each year that you plan to continue to homeschool. as for curriculum, as a previous poster mentioned, you really should know HOW you want to teach her before you choose a curriculum. Are you planning on schooling at home, unschooling, eclectic schooling? We pick and choose our curriculum based on the individual child's needs. We don't use a prepackaged for every subject from one publisher. We use: handwriting without tears hwtears.com math u see mathusee.com story of the world peacehillpress.com for spelling, I'll probably just use the workbooks by McGraw Hill from & Noble (you can sign up for an educators discount there) until junior high, we'll just use library books for whatever they choose to learn about for science. I won't start Story of the World until Olivia is 6. Liam will be 8. (that may change) Neither science or social studies are something that I think is very important the first few years. What they learn one year doesn't really accumulate like math and reading do. I HIGHLY recommend reading THE WELL TRAINED MIND by Wise & Wise Bauer peachillpress.com (library usually has it) HOWEVER, only read the sections that pertain to your daughters age. Otherwise, the book is crazily overwhelming. All of the above information is regarding what we WILL use for Liam and Olivia if we continue to plan on homeschooling. I'm going to the district offices next week and reviewing their math curriculum to see if they are going to stop using " fuzzy " math. If they are, I MIGHT consider sending Liam to school. I just am ambivalent about homeschooling again. <sigh> I hate being wishy washy! lol in IL
