Guest guest
I'm sorry Molly I guess I misread the post from before. Since it is a diet change you really don't need a " MILK " substitute IMO maybe just food. If in fact you do go that route like Robyn suggested goat's milk is good. You can find a good recipe at kellymom.com where you add a bit of water to tone it down a bit. Also you could try rice milk if you need to have a milk. Dairy is made for baby cows not baby humans, lol and it is actually pretty harsh on our stomachs among other things. If you do choose a cow's milk make sure you get rBGH and antibiotic free milk. Good luck mama and congrats for pumping for SO long, that's awesome! le > > > > > > > > > > -- > Robyn > robyn@... <mailto:%20robyn@...> > http://www.rmcsquared.net/ >
Guest guest
Hello Molly, If you want to switch to other food items I strongly reccommend the guidelines of Weston A Price, they are huge advocates of raw milk and have a fantastic homemade formula that is the next best thing to breast milk. Raw Cows Milk from pastured cows is fantastic for baby's and moms. Look at the pictures on the Weston A Price site of the Weston A Price baby's they are all beautiful and extremely healthy, most are not vaccinated. Check out the following... http://www.westonaprice.org/children/recipes.html I wouldn't touch soy or anything that is genetically modified, or ever consider feeding it to your children it is poison. http://www.westonaprice.org/soy/index.html http://www.westonaprice.org/soy/ploy.html Hope this helps. > > First, let me introduce myself. Just one tip with raw milk - yes it can be great stuff but you have to be *very* careful where you source it from, especially for a baby. I drink it myself normally, but as we don't have access to a local, trusted source (only interstate), I wouldn't drink it while pregnant or give it to my toddler. So just be sure if you choose raw milk that you are careful about where you get it from. All the best! Philippa
Guest guest
I drank it while pregnant and it was a life saver, most people don't know this but it used to be known as a cure for morning sickness and I promise it works really well. When my baby once born I had the nurses lining up in my room to know what I had eating during my pregnancy because my little girl was so healthy. No joke!!! I also feed it to my baby in the formula I mentioned below, and she is thriving off of it, I know many others that do this as well. Know your sources and just make sure they are testing, if the cows are pastured and being fed the right food your risk is mininal in addition the dairys I get my milk from in GA and SC all test. So it really isn't an issue. All the problems are just blown way out of porportion by the FDA and the USDA because of pressure from the commercial milk company's and if you do your research you'll find that the reason they have to pastureized their milk is because the quality is so pathetically bad, they are loosing market share by 3 percent a year. Once you pasturize the milk you negate all of the benefits plus it makes it undigestable and the calcium can't be absorbed by the human body so it is really pointless to consume it or give it to your kids, this also goes for anything pasturized with Calcium added. Check it out for your self here, plus there are sources for all over the US here. http://www.realmilk.com/ H > > Just one tip with raw milk - yes it can be great stuff but you have to > be *very* careful where you source it from, especially for a baby. I've been to conferences by weston price foundation and read up a lot and find their info fascinating, but I'm not dogmatic in my belief iykwim - there are very wise and respected people who argue against some of the teachings (eg the formula - after all bf is by far best for babies!) But as I said, I do like a lot of their info and have followed it quite a lot in the past. However, we are very limited in good sources of raw milk here in Oz (it's illegal to sell) and my naturopath (who has no vested interests and who I trust) absolutely recommends against raw milk for young children or pregnant women. I agree with her that unless you personally know your source, it is safer not to drink it. Like you said, though, pasteurised milk has little value, but then I don't think we need milk to be healthy. But that's just my opinion! Anyway, I am not saying anything against raw milk - just advising caution. A lot of people (wise people without monetary interests) are against the weston price 'formula' for infants and the use of raw milk for infants, but I'm not against anything - I just suggest people make an informed/educated decision and take adequate care over their sources.
