The Big " DUH " Event

Well I think we can file this one under " DUH. "

Is it just me or do you get sick and tired of seeing money wasted on ridiculous

research for children with autism when we should be doing studies on genetics,

environmental impact, gastrointestinal issues and immune system dysfunction, yet

instead, we see this:

CBS News: Study: Fever Lessens Autism Symptoms

DUH. How do you feel when you have a fever? The flu? Are you talking?

Bouncing around? Chipper and gleeful? No. If you're anything like me, you're

in bed or on the couch watching old reruns of Law & Order hoping you'll die

soon. Fevers knock a lot out of the average Joe.

So why is it a big surprise that makes headline news when 30 children are

studied and the shocking result is that autism symptoms are lessened when ! the

child has a fever? Again -- DUH.

" But scientists at the Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore have found that

even though the effects are temporary, the discovery opens a new window to

understanding autism. "

The effects are temporary? Shocking! Let me guess.... a little motrin, a few

days, and the fever is gone, and *poof* the symptoms reappear. Do I get a PhD

behind my name now?

....And more proof...... " inspired by anecdotal reports from parents and

clinicians who found that when a child with autism developed a fever, many

classic signs of the condition seem to subside. " You don't say! Let me guess,

when the child has a fever, they don't feel like talking, they lay on the couch

and watch cartoons instead of running around and hand flapping?? Astonishing!

Some of the findings of the study, admittedly, were interesting, but not

altogether a " wow " mo! ment for anyone.

I'd love to know who funded this on e, wouldn't you?? DUH.
