Guest guest
On cable news last night, and during the afternoon, were filmed interviews with some irate parents, none who particularly minded their children having the shots but that they " could be doing something else " or " being dragged to court when my child has her shots like I'm not a good parent or something " and the ones that had a happier edge " ...when my child has already had chickenpox. " I was surprised (and worse) that there was no comment on health basics such as the immune strength of current health of the child.? At the last minute I suggested to one of the major alert groups asking for a waiver letter (all official involved sign away their own immunity under color of law in case something happens to a child and family as a result of the coerced shots). There were and are some comments about the constitutionality of the coerced vaccinations and I suspect there will not only be considerably more but that they can and should become a major issue in the US presidential primary debates and campaigns. Guest guest
I caught a brief snippet of the vaccine story in land on CNN yesterday and saw a long line of parents and children, apparently heading into the courthouse to either shoot up or go to jail. My middle age suburban white guy eyes saw a long line of Hispanics and African Americans. Hmmmm... I wonder if a prosecutor could get away with those Gestapo tactics in say, Dupage county, Illinois, or Marin county, California? I think not. Guest guest
We recently moved from Prince 's County in MD. I seriously doubt that this was a racist thing. The majority of the population in the county is black and Hispanic. Caucasians make up something like 22% of the population. Guest guest
If I may just make an objective observation... I think Georga was saying it can't be racist (singling out Afr. Am. and and Hisp.) because that is the racial make-up of the whole county, but I think Harry's point was that is precisely why that county was chosen. It wouldn't fly in a predom. white, perhaps more affluent and privileged county. That was my take fwiw...On Nov 18, 2007, at 7:46 AM, christine wrote: Just asking- So- how is it NOT a racist thing when it’s mostly non-whites? Guest guest
Prince 's County has a lot of problems. I really shouldn't pick on PG County. I should say that the entire MD area of Metro DC has a lot of problems. That area is a world unto itself. A lot of people that I know that have lived there have said that it is the most screwed up place that they have ever lived. Crap that is normal in that area wouldn't fly anywhere else in the United States. I don't know if it's because of the number of politicians that live in the area or what it is. Might as well build a wall around that area and call it New Berlin or something. Yes, it's that bad. My husband was in the Navy for 10 years and we have moved around a lot and I hated that area like no other that I have ever lived in. It's rather common for county workers to abuse the power that they are given (and, for the record, most of those county workers are not white). There is a lot of corruption going on there in general. I think they get away with it partly because of the language barrier, partly because of the " poor " population (translated: those that don't live in million dollar homes - the entire Beltway area, as it's called, is a land of extremes. There is no middle ground to anything). A lot of people in the county speak very limited English (it's so bad that the two major hospitals in the area will not hire doctors and nurses unless they are bilingual. Same for teachers in a lot of the elementary schools - classes are taught in both English and Spanish) so I think it's easier for the government there to get away with the crap that they do. No one thinks enough to stand up to them and say " This is screwed up and we don't have to put up with it " so everything goes unchallenged. We are in the process of filing a lawsuit against the county over something else but it still comes down to abuse of power, corruption, and violation of personal rights. Even more disturbing is that there are very few lawyers that are even willing to take on the county because of the corruption and abuse of power. I hate to say this, but I am really not surprised that Prince 's County pulled this crap. If I had to pick any one county in the US that would do something like this I would have picked PG County. Guest guest
49 school districts/counties in land. Ranking from best to worst schools puts Baltimore City schools at number 49. Prince 's County schools are number 48. What does that tell you? Prince s and Baltimore City schools make the worst Cleveland Public Schools look ivy league. What does that tell you? Yes, I grew up in Ohio and know the Akron/Canton/Cleveland area pretty well. I don't have a lot good to say about Canton schools (they were the deciding factor in me homeschooling, because that is where we lived at the time when our oldest was ready for kindergarten) but I have even less good to say about PGCPS. Guest guest
Great response Georga. This is one of the things about the situation that pisses me off. Who is standing up for these people? I think we should really get the ACLU involved.
