Guest guest
Hi Vida, >*> >*> I am 100% against vaccines, obviously, I'm in this group. I too am 100% against vaxes, but do bear in mind that this list exists for those that are also unsure about vaccinations and who wish to learn more. There are probably also folk here who vaccinate selectively because they feel it is the right thing to do for them, which is not for us to question. >*> It just >*> seems to me that mattress fumes causing SIDS is the only thing that >*> explains why SIDS is more prevalent in poorer families and why the >*> chance of dying from SIDS rises with each subsequent child (from >*> reusing old mattresses,) and also not one baby has yet died from >*> sleeping on a wrapped mattress (my husband is from India, where they >*> don't use these kinds of mattresses for babies, and he has >*> never even >*> heard of SIDS until coming to the U.S.) Of course, babies die from >*> vaccines too, but I think these are two seperate issues. Plus, it >*> has been shown that a rise in body heat and sweating on the >*> mattresses helps release these fumes and many babies get >*> fevers after >*> vaccination which would cause this, so at times it could even be a >*> combination of the two. I think you may well have a point here. Certainly there used to be some dreadful fire-retarding chemicals in mattresses, so it's perfectly plausible. Sadly, the bottom line is that no-one really knows why some babies die. With some it is obvious. Some again may be vaccines or bottle-feeding, or medication reactions, or environmental toxins...the list goes on. And with others, perhaps nothing more than it was their time. >*> Nothing should be overlooked when it comes to babies. I think >*> vaccines are the biggest evil, but that there are many others. I was determined that nothing untoward would ever get past me - that my girl would always have organic, chemical-free, additive-free, environmentally-sound of *everything*. Then they start growing up. And unless you are prepared to keep your child chained to your side 24/7, it simply isn't realistic or practical, however much you want to do it. When they are little you can control what they do, play with, what they wear and what they eat and drink. As they grow and start making their way in the world, they will hate you for denying them a cake or a biscuit, as they see all their friends around them eating these *forbidden* items, or for forbidding them to play with the plastic toys that all their mates play with. What are you going to do when their friends ask them to Mcs for a birthday treat - say they can't go? You'll be popular! Small children are incapable of understanding these choices we - however well-intentioned - make for them. I am a Nestlé ban supporter and that's caused some upsets over the years where she's brought home party bags with chocolate in and I've taken it away. Eventually you become more mellow about it and you compromise. And as they get older - my girl is just turned 10 - you can educate them about these things like trans-fats and the benefits of organic food. And in the long run, they will end up eating more healthily for it. They will learn to make healthy choices willingly instead of you forcing them on them. Believe me, it drives me mad that the teachers here give lollipops for rewards and endorse eating burgers over full fat milk products, but that's the way it is. You just do the best you can within the framework of the crazy world we live in. As always, your best option is to build up their health with as much good, wholefood as you can get them to eat, plenty of water, plenty of rest, plenty of sleep and plenty of love. And treat every problem they do have in a non-suppressive, curative way, whether that's homoeopathy or some other natural therapy. Does your husband set store by Ayur Veda? <respectfully snipped> No-one ever said parenting was easy, did they? ;o) Love, light and peace, Sue
