Dear zeaaa333,

It is through questions like yours that discussions are expanded and this exchange of information is beneficial to all. We look to those who have reached freedom from these things and yet there are so many different methods used along the way, it is often hard to distinguish which was most instrumental, although there are a few which appear to be substantial and bring us hope. So we offer what we feel was helpful to us along the way, and then each reader has to decide which ones they feel are appropriate for their situation. There are so many considerations - does breathing the dust and sprays cause lung problems, do the supplements we take interact with medications we take, what hazards the chemicals pose to us and to children or mothers-to-be? So we take a leap of faith sometimes, and do somethings we might normally not do.

My experience and understanding of DE is that it does take sometime (a few months or more - it works by drying them up) for results to be noticed, but we used other products during this time (borax, windex, mopped floors with clorox solution, sprayed chemicals in the house and outside along the foundation and yard, fogged with cedarcide, and much of the general protocol for laundry, etc.) I still believe DE was very instrumental in getting us to a point of freedom in our environment but I don't think this would have been achieved by the DE alone. It is best to apply with a bulb duster that distributes a very fine powder, and we applied along baseboards (and in rooms where we would not be spending any time, we "puffed" the powder about 2-4 feet out away from walls. It may be significant that we were also putting down Borax along with the DE - which most likely resulted in a "double-whammy." We also applied the dust behind walls through outlets.

We did use Orange Guard in our car. I found it to be sticky and decided to go a different route - some have tried other orange products which may not be as sticky. Since we have the tri-jet fogger, we use the cedarcide - it takes so little and is so easy and quick - gets into every nook and cranny and hangs in the air a while for a good "kill." I also alternated this with windex - but whatever you apply, it would be best to allow it to sit for a while and then air out the vehicle before getting in to avoid harmful vapors. There are different opinions about the effectiveness of cedarcide. We found it to be helpful during our early stages and it is considered relatively safe, but using it as a fog in the entire house took us about a gallon each time, and that can get expensive since it is not a residual and relief is not always permanent (there are a few who have had good results and completely eliminated them by the use of the cedarcide, however), but we found we had to fog numerous times. I believe we now are free of these things in our environment, and cedarcide helped us keep a little sanity along the way, but we haven't fogged for quite sometime. We reserve our little gallon of gold for the dog and spritzing hot spots (the laundry room and around computer.)

Hope this is of help to you. Good luck in your battle and hope you can find some relief soon. This group is very knowledgeable and so willing to share.

1000 more questions...

I hope it is not a burden to the frequent posters and readers of this website that I constantly ask questions and yet have no substantial advice or solid answers to offer in return. Every time I try a new protocol, so many, many questions arise for me... So here are my latest pressing questions:1) How long does it generally take to notice less bites and crawling with DE in the environment if it is working?2) Is a light layer of DE helpful or should it be a thick layer? 3) How long does it generally take to notice less bites and crawling with MMS1 internally if it is working?4) Does coffee or dark chocolate make me more attractive to these pests? I'm so addicted to at least a little each day.5)When you spray the car with orange guard, do you soak it everywhere?Thank you (ahead of time) to all those who have info to share on these topics.
