ear wax

In regards to the ear candling. I have done it before. Not on myself of

course. I too was amazed at the gunk that came out! Some people do get

clogged up with too much wax in their ears and it can create a problem. At

the hospital doctors will have us irrigate the ears gently with H2O2 to

loosen it and clear them out. Yes of course our bodies should eliminate

excess wax but sometimes peoples bodies just don't. I am sure it would have

to do with the similar reason why some peoples sinuses get clogged and just

don't drain.

But I wouldn't suggest doing it too often to your own ears. (the irrigation)

that is. The candling helped the other person tremenously with clearing up

his stuffy feeling. He could hear better too.

I've also purchased ear drops from a health food store. That had olive oil

and grapeseed extract in them. Possibly another ingredient too but don't

remember what else. Anyway they gave me some comfort when I had a sinus

infection, ear infection and bronchitis. Along with a multitude of other

stuff.

It's so odd that this subject has come up right at this time. I have heard

about ear-candling a lot but didn't think too much of it as there are so

many things out there these days, it's hard to keep up with it all. Anyway,

my daughter had her ears candled and just could not believe the wax and

yeast that came out of her ears, so she bought some of the special candles

used for this and did my ears and my husbands. Wellllll, it was hard to

believe the build-up of stuff that comes out, and my ears feel so clean. Now

I am not suggesting that this is the thing to do but am just letting you

know of our experience with this. My husband does get a lot of wax forming

in his ears and he really thinks that he can hear better since having this

done. I don't think it would be a thing to do very often as we do need the

natural wax in our ears but if you feel adventurous, give it a try, it's

amazing!! Cheers, Sandy

Oh no you can't do it to yourself! That would not be safe. My cocker is

pretty smart (for a cocker) but I had to try to keep him away from it when I

was doing it to someone else! He was intrigued by it.

Is it possible to do this by yourself or do you need another person. I have

some ear cones but haven't used them because I am by myself. I don't think

I can train my cocker to perform this!! LOL

I just wanted to say that whoever you have do your ears make sure they know

how to do it. I had done my husbands ears a few times and then decided I

would like him to do mine. I assumed that from having his done so many

times he knew the correct way to do it but he did not. He did notremove the

candle soon enough and the flame reached the wax that had been removed from

my ear and melted it back into my ear, I was inexcruciating pain for days.

So please make sure they do it correctly.

How awful! I won't try doing it by myself. Thanks for the info.

Used the cerumal before for Jasmine's ears. It didn't do any good. The Dr.

used a scissor-like thing to reach in there and pull out the wax so he could

see her's. You just have to convince her to hold still.

Nic has always had a problem like that. At our last visit the Dr said just

to put a tiny bit of shampoo on your pinky and rub it around the outer part

of his ears, whenever he gets a bath.

.. It would be just enough to loosen it up.

I am careful to leave some wax in my ears. I believe it is there as a

protection. There is a very thin membrane between the ear canal and the brain.

Is there anyone here who knows more about this and could address it more

thoroughly, or more accurately, for us?

Thank you,

katie

Interesting - I can't provide the information your seeking, but this struck a cord. I've always cleaned my ears with alcohol and perhaps this removed that protective barrier because for about 6 months I'd been having an earache. (I've been using peroxide now.) I saw an ENT hoping he would provide an antiobiotic and maybe that would kill the things if they were in there. He did not feel an antiobiotic was necessary but put some cream deep in the ear canal delivered by the arm of a very large overhead machine resembling an x-ray machine. I don't know what the cream was or why he put it there. He asked if I'd had any dental work done lately (I have) and thought the pain was due to TMJ. When I got up and left the room, everything was spinning and I figured it must have been directly related to the inner ear thing. The disorientation and dizziness continued for a short time until I got home. Stupid that I was, I didn't say anything to the doctor about this because he was in with another patient and I just wanted to get home.

lol, Judy,

I would like to encourage you to remove the word "stupid" from descriptions of your actions!

A spinning head is just that--you did what you had to do, needed to do, based on how your body felt and what it was telling you at the time. Sometimes I second guess my decisions after the fact (is that a womanly trait or is it just me that thinks guys don't do that--do you, fellas?), and when that happens, I am training myself to avoid kicking myself about something I'd rather have done differently.

There is such a feeling of being a pariah for me with this, or there was early on, that I withdrew from the social support I desperately needed. I didn't have all of you then, plus I was new at it, so naturally I sought validation from people who reacted as they probably did to many of us: with disbelief, distrust, and disgust. Gradually I got the message that I was seeking inappropriate relationships, because the word itself implies a two-way, equal everything, and that no longer existed where I tried to confide. I had to learn first to trust myself and accept that I was (then) the only human being who could help me. Once I accepted that for myself, it was actually empowering. My attitude became almost cavalier, "They don't believe me, tough. Who needs them?"

Well, since I am related to, married to, or work for "them," I do. So I began refraining from sharing where what I had to say was not wanted anyway. That was tough. As you know I have had some occasions where my conscience drove me to disclose to protect others. As this is an evaluation for future reference, lol, not beating myself up, I promised myself to remember this lesson in future.

So, I propose a toast to our crittered community: Let's love each other--and OURSELVES, through this mess! Judy, remember that old movie adage, "Tomorrow is another day."
