YOU'RE SO VAIN!

Wednesday, 21 March 2012

Oh, it's not such a great characteristic in a

person, is it? You remember, back in high school, the

prettiest girl on campus? Every hair was always in

place. Her makeup was flawless. It seems she never

ran out of fabulous clothes to wear. And oh yeah, she

was every guy's first choice to ask to the school

prom. With so much going for her, she was the

"it-girl" on campus and she knew it!

Vanity really isn't a very

nice quality in a person, is it?

Or how's about the jock in high school? He was the

hero of every football game. His Levi's looked they

were painted onto his

body. He had his own Ford Mustang. The girls just

about swooned when he walked by. And he

turned up his nose or made fun of the overweight or

nerdy boys in gym class! (Like they used to do me.)

Boy, talk about vanity. These two

wrote the book on being vain and it really isn't a very

nice quality in a person, is it? Well...is it?

Okay, wait a minute. I want you to pause with me and

let's look up the definition of the word vanity:excessive

pride in one's appearance, qualities or

achievements; character or quality of being vain.

Well, that sounds pretty much like the two people I

described from your high school days, right? But do

me a favor. Go back and look at the first word in the

definition: excessive.

Ahhhh, there

it is. If you think about it, that's what

makes being vain such an unattractive quality. That

is, being excessively

impressed with your good

looks or accomplishments.

A little vanity is

actually goodfor

the soul!

But to me, vanity takes kind of a bum rap. I say, a little vanity is

actually good for the soul!

Hey, you should have

pride in your appearance and what you've achieved in

life. In fact, when it comes to losing weight, I'd

say having a little vanity plays an important role in

reaching your goal.

See, you've got to care about and have enough pride in

yourself to work at looking and feeling your best. In

fact, the two go hand-in-hand. You've got to have

that pride in yourself in order to make the changes

it'll take to help you lose weight, look better and

feel better about you!

And you know what else? Even before and while you're working

to lose weight, who says you can't take pride in

yourself? How does your hair look? Do you put on a

little makeup before you leave the house? You may

wear plus-sizes now, but hey, you can still look nice

and feel good about yourself wearing them.

I'm not letting you guys off the hook, either. When's

the last time you had your hair actually styled? They

say "clothes make the man." So, what do your clothes

say about you?

Do yourself a favor.

A little bit of vanity can go a long way in helping

you take better care of yourself.

Are you getting my point? Those classmates of yours

back in school who thought they were better than

everybody else, I'll admit, they got carried away with

the whole vanity thing. But as for you, a little bit

of vanity, (not the excessive kind), can go a long way

in helping you look better, feel better and work

harder at taking good care of you! And that's true

whether you're just starting out with losing weight or

almost at your goal. So go ahead, do yourself a

favor. I'll say it again, a little bit of vanity can

go a long way in helping you take better care of

yourself.

Oh, you're so vain. I bet you think this message was

about you!

Love,
