Sharing is what this group is all about . My current focus is on High

Blood Pressure- its the only remaining medication I have and am trying to

eliminate it safely. HBP can lead to heart problems and also kidney failure

so I am working on strengthening both. Cranberry and Dandelion root along with

Reishi extract and of course the ever and always GARLIC should keep my kidneys

in tact, but the jury is still out. This is a new regimen and I need to keep

tabs on my blood pressure to see how well this is working.

Hawthorne Berries, Red Yeast Rice and CoQ10 have been added to assist the

heart- will be hard to determine if this is working since I have no heart

issues at the moment, but it does give me a feeling of having a safety margin

and that in itself can be a good thing.

There are many other herbs which can be used here, I chose what was readily

available and except for the Reishi extract- least expensive.

Kombucha is also very helpful in both these areas, but have not restarted my

brews since returning from the hospital. Currently I don't really have a

space in which to set up the tank. I am now living with my daughter and her

husband/ plus 4 children in a house that was meant for half this number. The

basement is in process of being finished and when that happens I will have my

own bedroom and a place to do my brews without impinging on the space of

others.

Patience has never been a strong suit for me, so once again I have to relearn

the art. LOL

Hi Zoe-

I also use Red Yeast Rice and COQ10 to help control cholesterol. What made the

biggest difference in my blood pressure, and you may have done this, was to

completely cut out table salt. I used way to much and put it on everything. When

I completely cut it out, I mean I don't touch the shaker, I was able to stop

taking my blood pressure medicine!

Carla are you familiar with the difference between REAL unrefined sea salt

and the stuff usually sold in stores that has been chemically bleached and

then had iodine added? The former only very very rarely causes any

hypertensive symptoms, the later frequently does. Salt is necessary.

People used to be paid in salt and the origins of the ward salary is salt.

The difference is the type/quality.

Salt is not the enemy but the stuff sold in most stores is very far removed

from traditional unrefined salts which also contains lots of trace minerals.

I am glad you are off the meds. But I just know how important real salt can

be - as long as it is the right type.

Advantages of Sea SaltSea salt is basically derived by a natural process

from the sea. Being unprocessed, sea salt has several health advantages.

Read more about it here.

Think about this: our tears taste salty, our blood tastes salty, in fact,

our body fluids are remarkably akin to a salty sea environment. Salt is one

of the essential elements of life, but the human body cannot produce it,

hence we have to take it from an external source. Most of the salt we get

these days is either from table salt or foods that contain salt in them,

such as meat. The trouble is that the human body does not know how to handle

processed salt, which table salt is.

Most people are not aware of the fact that that there are considerable

differences between the processed table salt that we use in our cooking and

natural salt derived from the sea. The differences play a major role in us

staying healthy. Processed salt can throw your body out of gear. Years of

consuming processed salt can cause damage to various parts of the body such

as the bones, muscles, kidneys, and heart. Plus, it is refined table salt

that causes water retention and bloating.

The table salt that we regularly use actually comprises of 97.5 percent

sodium chloride plus 2.5 percent chemicals such as iodine and moisture

absorbents. Processed at more than 1,200 degrees F, this enormous heat

causes an alteration to its natural chemical structure.

Sea salt basically means unrefined salt that is directly derived from the

sea or ocean. It is made by sea water being channeled into large trays made

of clay, where it is allowed to evaporate naturally by the wind and the sun.

Since those who manufacture sea salt usually do not use any refining

process, sea salt retains traces of various minerals such as iodine, zinc,

manganese, potassium, calcium, magnesium, and iron. It can be a little gray

in color, which is indicative of the various minerals it contains, apart

from sodium chloride.

Comprising of all the elements that are found in the human body, there are

several advantages of sea salt, some of which are given below:

- In the past, saltwater has always been a healing ingredient used for

the body. And sea salt, which is extracted from sea water, has the same

ability to detoxify and heal the human body because of the minerals it

contains, which are vital for our health.

- The potassium, calcium, and magnesium that sea salt contains have many

beneficial effects. Potassium helps in keeping the moisture of the skin in

balance and also provides energy to the body. It also helps to relax the

muscles and relieve its stiffness. Calcium not only strengthens bones, but

also prevents the retention of water and increases circulation. Magnesium

too fights the retention of fluids and also helps to fight stress. Moreover,

it has a calming effect on the nervous system and helps in slowing down the

aging of skin.

- Unrefined sea salt has a clean, pure and bright flavor, and when added

to food it enhances the taste subtly due to its trace elements. When

unprocessed sea salt is eaten, it immediately starts the process of

digestion by working with the saliva. The more there are minerals in the

mouth, the better the digestion that takes place. This digestive process

carries on in the stomach.

- Natural sea salt also reduces blood pressure. Plus it helps the

adrenals, kidneys, and the liver to work far more efficiently. It also has

the ability of boosting the immune system.

- Unprocessed sea salt helps in extracting the toxins and acidity from

the cells, particularly from the brain cells. Moreover, it also helps in

dissolving calcium deposits, which can create health problems.

- Unrefined sea salt helps in regulating the levels of water in the body,

thus maintaining the delicate balance that needs to exist between the cells

and body fluids, while also helping to maintain the electrolyte balance.

- Being a powerful antihistamine, sea salt also prevents muscles from

cramping and clears sinuses from congestion. It is also a natural soporific,

thus helping to regulate sleep. Moreover, sea salt helps to balance blood

sugar levels.

One more thing you may want to look into is celery seed. Here's a link to

just one forum that discussed it. You can Google and find lots more info.

You can eat the stalks, juice or blend them, or just get the seeds and use

them. No need to buy the supplement, unless you want to.

Jaxi-

This is such wonderful information! I had an inkling from my reading that sea

salt was not as bad as table salt, but I had no idea that it is actually good

for us. I decided to give up salt completely because I was so addicted. My

reasoning was that I needed to learn to taste the food that I am eating, hoping

that eventually I will not miss the salty taste. I am hoping that when the

garden comes in this year, I will be able to eat tomatoes and cucumbers, because

for the last two years I have barely eaten them. They just don't taste as good

to me without salt. I do bathe in a sea salt bath most days, because I know that

it's good for my skin, and it helps ease my muscles when they are sore. I am

vegan, so the majority of my diet is fresh, although I do eat some packaged

food, and feel like I get my quota of salt there. Thank you so much for all this

information!

Carla,

I understand. Back in the day when they linked all hypertension to salt my

Dad had high BP and our family stopped eating salt. Since I grew up that

way I continued in that way. I rarely added much of any salt to anything I

cooked. Only recently after I started on the iodine protocol have I started

adding salt to things. Good salt. Real salt. We now have 3 types of good

salt in the house. Redmonds real salt and two different hand harvested sea

salts. I have discovered salts bring out the flavor in raw veggies - I

never knew this - LOL. We don't go salt crazy by any means, but it really

is nice to have it and use it and not worry about it being bad for us.

is nice to have it and use it and not worry about it being bad for us.

Zoe,

I much like Kombucha, but in my case, I took lots of it before and eventually it

had some negative reactions for me. It took me a while to understand why. I

will offer a couple of pieces of info for you to consider. Just to consider or

ignore if they don't make sense to you.

1) Tea often is loaded with fluoride (especially if it's not organic, there are

also differences in what part of the tea is used). Fluoride is required for

proper function of the thyroid, which regulates the immune system, which when

low, can lead to cancers. Even organic tea has fluoride. Again all in excess

has an effect

2) Fructose, which is the " left over " sugar after fermentation is only processed

by the liver, as opposed to glucose which is used as is. This causes heavy

loads for the liver. Fructose is not bad in reasonable quantities if is

accompanied by FIBER, like in a fruit. This slows down absorption and the

impact to the liver.

3) Caffeine is also a consideration.

So, again, not trying to minimize the positive effects Kombucha has, just

letting folks know why it wasn't that good for me, when I used it in higher

amounts.

Thats a good start Carla, I've not had table salt in the house for years.

Redmond's Real Salt was where I began, am now using Celtic Light Gray Sea

Salt. The taste difference is amazing and its truly good for you in moderation

of course.

Staying away from processed foods is another good move, its all laced with the

wrong kinds of salt.

High Blood Pressure- its the only remaining medication I have and am trying to

eliminate it safely.

The

basement is in process of being finished and when that happens I will have my

own bedroom and a place to do my brews without impinging on the space of

others.

Patience has never been a strong suit for me, so once again I have to relearn

the art. LOL

One more thing you may want to look into is celery seed. Here's a link to

just one forum that discussed it. You can Google and find lots more info.

You can eat the stalks, juice or blend them, or just get the seeds and use

them. No need to buy the supplement, unless you want to.

I drink half to a quart of KT a day, sometimes more, sometimes less as I

Teas I use on a regular basis are a mix of 3/4 green teas (Gunpowder,

Earl Grey, Jasmine, China green and others as I can get them)

TheEarl Grey Family (also Lady Grey) produce a wonderfully fruity aroma.

And don't let anyone tell you that you shouldn't use Earl Grey - simply not

true!!

Soon I plan to start a batch for my sister who drinks Earl Gray exclusively,

to see if I can get her brewing :) I'm very curious to see how it tastes.

I just did a taste test of the Darjeeling I started, which is one of my

favorite teas. It was a yummy yummy taste test, can't wait for the batch.

But I have to wait a little longer because I added the extra sugar, hoping

for the fizziness that got lost along the way.

Happy Brewing!

Hi Alison,

I just wanted to wish you continued success on lil J's plastic castings.

Ive never seen this before and am hopeful that you will see more

correction. I just wated to mention that in EDF casting and Mehtas Early

Treatment Method, the focus is on decreasing the rotation

primarily...Correcting rotation is KEY when it comes to complete curve

resolution. Just a FYI that you may want to share with the orthotist for

their feedback. Correcting rotation in the early stages is made possible

by applying the plaster casts on a 3 dimensional frame w, elongation,

derotation & flexion.

Please continue to keep us posted.

First, we're about to get a home this week, a man in our neighborhood gave us a trailer home (2 bdr 1 1/2 bath) and is going to fix it up for us this week so we're about to be in a real home! Second, I managed to lose a total of 13 pounds so far! I'm so excited! I'm going to keep going and going to reach my March goal. 215.6 here I come!
