Guest guest
FAN CLUB! Monday, 28 November 2011 My mother used to buy lots of magazines that talked about what the hottest celebrities of the 50's and 60's were up to. (I guess they were like the People magazine of my childhood.) Those magazines would contain lots of news about the day's biggest celebs and how to join many of their fan clubs. While my mother was at work, I'd read through her celebrity magazines, cover-to-cover soaking up the photos and info about the stars. There was one Broadway star I was absolutely enthralled with...Barbra Streisand. In the early 60's, these magazines were filled with stories about the new young artists who were the toasts of Hollywood...and Broadway! And there was one Broadway star I was absolutely enthralled with...Barbra Streisand. In fact, I became so captivated that I wrote her publicist, saying how much I loved Miss Streisand and that I was eager to become a member of her fan club. As it turns out, back then, Barbra's fan club was run my her sister, Roslyn Kind. My letter must have really struck a chord with her because, within two weeks, I'd received a fan club kit that included Barbra's biography and lots of photos of her. Plus, the kit filled me in on all of the latest projects she was involved in. One of those plans was for her to star in a new movie based on one of the big Broadway plays that helped make her a superstar...Funny Girl! Oh, I couldn't wait to see it! It wasn't long before my bedroom walls were plastered with photos of Barbra. (To this day, I have an incredible collection of her professional photographs.) But here's the funny part of my Funny Girl story. All of these years later, people now write to tell me that they are MY fans! (Oh my, who would have ever guessed this would happen to me?) But you know what? I actually get a little embarrassed when people say they're "fans" of mine. Hey, truth is...I'm their fans! Have you ever thought about where the word "fan" comes from? So have you ever thought about where the word "fan" comes from? Well, it really is quite simple. It's a shortened version of the word fanatic. (And I must admit, I was a fanatic about Miss Funny Girl! LOL.) Yes, I'm still a big fan of Barbra's but today, I'm an even bigger fan of something else. And no, it's not a person. Today, I'm a big fan of...exercise! Hey, I've got to get my workouts in...everyday! My Clubhouse members know better than anyone what a huge fan of exercise I am. I remind them that, without exercise, they'll never reach their weight-loss goals and, even when they do, they must make exercise a daily part of their lives to keep off the weight they've worked so hard to lose. Every Monday night during my Clubhouse live chat, we stop our chats for little blasts of exercise. We do leg lifts, bicep curls or even one-legged jumping jacks. After that quick sweatin' break, we get right back into our chat. (Hey, I can motivate everybody and make them burn calories at the same time! LOL.) Now come on, gang, I want you to be fanatics about exercise, too! Those workouts have got to get under your skin. You've got to thirst for them. When you do, soon you'll be having someone taking 8 X 10 photos of you...because you're looking so good. You'll be plastering the walls of your own bedroom with those good-looking photos of yourself because now, you'll feel like a star! And when you get your daily workouts in, you'll not only become an exercise fan but you'll become your own best friend, too. Do you belong to anyone's fan club? Hey, do you belong to anyone's fan club? Well, I want you be start your own fan club by becoming fanatic...about exercise. And, you can bet, I'll be first in line to be one of your fans!
