SCRE-E-E-E-E-C-H!

Oh, were you driving too fast? Or...were you

simply distracted? Wait, what's that I see sitting in

the passenger's seat next to you? Oh, no...don't tell

me! That bag, with the little girl in red-haired pig

tails. Ohhhh, now I get it. You were so busy taking

a bite of that hamburger while, at the same time,

trying to dip your hand into that bag for a few more

French fries...you almost ran a traffic light.

Well, well, well. Looks like someone is indulging in

that great American and often dangerous American habit

of eating

while driving!

Sometimes here in L.A. when I'm driving down Sunset

Boulevard, I'll pull up to a light, look over and see

someone chowing down! They spot me, while they're

mouths are filled with food and I just look at them.

Oh, the look on their faces. I'll

roll down my window and shout to them...Hey, can I

have a bite of that burrito?! LOL. Well,

we both laugh

but, I'm telling you, trying to eat and drive is no

laughing matter. For instance...

A new study revealed that a

staggering 80% of all car

accidents and 65% of near-misses

are caused by distracted drivers.

A new study revealed that a staggering 80% of all car

accidents and65% of near-misses

are caused by distracted drivers? That's right, those

people are more focused on their burgers than the nice

grandmother trying to cross the street!

I might as well tell you. Nothing gets me upset like

pulling up to a light and seeing a driver chatting or

texting on their cell phones. But every bit as

annoying is seeing someone driving a car while eating

a donut and trying to manage their morning cup of

coffee at the same time. Now come on, you've just got

to admit how unsmart it is to do any of these things.

As for me, I could never understand the satisfaction a

person gets trying to eat and drive at the same

time. I'll admit, I'm not the greatest driver in the

world. And the last thing I'd want to do is try and eat while

I'm driving. The way I see it, both jobs take all of

my concentration. When I drive, I have to stay

focused on where I'm going while paying attention to

stop signs, traffic lights, pedestrians and even

people riding their bikes. Hey, driving takes a lot

of concentration. But hold on...eating does, too!

I look forward to having my three healthy meals each

day. And hey, when I'm having my meals, I want to

spend my time concentrating on eating and not worrying

about if I'm going to miss that next light. I don't

want any distractions. I want to take time and truly

enjoy my food.

Aren't your meals more

satisfying when you're sitting at a table and able to

enjoy your meal with a knife and fork?

Honestly, aren't your meals more satisfying when

you're sitting at a table and able to enjoy your meal

with a knife and fork? Doesn't it make a lot more

sense and isn't your meal more satisfying that way?

Rather than trying to gobble a burger or sandwich from

some sub shop while driving down the street at 40

miles an hour? And oh my, what if a pickle loaded

with mayonnaise or some of that secret sauce from a

burger drips a nasty stain onto the new blouse you're

wearing? Aren't you gonna look

good at that meeting you're headed to?

In all seriousness everybody, you'll eat more

sensibly, you'll be more aware of how much you're eating

and you'll feel more satisfied having your meals in a

more civilized way. That is, sitting at a table

with a knife and fork in hand.

And by the way, here in California, a driver can be

ticketed $145 to $1,000 for

demonstrating "wanton disregard for the safety of

persons or property" while driving a car. (They're

talking about eating while driving.) Boy, that would

turn out to be one very expensive burger,

wouldn't it?

Look, I want you all to drive safely, eat wisely and

to remember, it's not

safe and

it's not

wise, trying

toeat and drive!

Love,
