Guest guest
GET YOUR FORK READY! Friday, 11 November 2011 I can't tell you how many people write and tell me they've just been to one of those all-you-can-eat buffets. Years ago, Chinese buffets were just about the only place you could go for one of those kinds of feasts. And, oh yes, I've been to many of them myself. And let's just say, they were calorie heaven or, more correctly put, high-calorie...hell! (Sorry for being so blunt.) Lined up on one side of the restaurant was the biggest buffet you'd ever laid eyes on. Lined up on one side of the restaurant was the biggest buffet you'd ever laid eyes on. And for the bargain price of only $8.95, you could graze until you just about fainted! This one buffet I went to started out with appetizers like egg rolls, fried won tons stuffed with crab, mini spare bibs and rumaki. (That's a dish where they take chicken liver and water chestnuts, wrap it in bacon then deep fry their little creation. Have you ever had it?) But the food choices at this, (or any), Chinese buffet didn't end there. Let's see, they'd have kung pao chicken, sweet & sour pork, fried shrimp, two kinds of fried rice, a noodle dish and almond cookies for dessert. I remember standing there with my plate. grabbing one of those big serving spoons and filling my plate to the brim! And yes, you guessed it...when my plate was clean, I'd head back to the buffet line and start all over again! That was years ago but, these days, Chinese food buffets aren't the only act in town. In fact, it seems that everybody has gotten into the act. There're a number of restaurants all over the country that offer...all-you-can-eat! There're family-style country buffets, pizza buffets, oh...you name it, all-you-can-eat restaurants now offer an endless list of foods to choose from. And I don't have to name any names...you know who they are! As you might imagine, all-you-can-eat restaurants do a very good business. On our Cruise To Lose ship, the Carnival Splendor, their Lido Deck had a buffet you simply would not believe. On our Cruise To Lose ship, the Carnival Splendor, their Lido Deck had a buffet you simply would not believe. Honestly, name a food and...they had it! From Chinese to Italian to home-style cooking, it was all there! I never even went up to see but I heard all about it. Of course, I was so proud of my cruisers. They went, they looked but they conquered by not giving in to all of those food temptations. They made wise choices. And I'm told the Lido Deck's salad bar was filled with choices for making great-tasting, healthy salads! Are you trying to lose weight? (The fact that you're here today reading my message is a pretty good indication that you are.) Well, if you are working to lose weight, going to an all-you-can-eat buffet is not going to help you reach your goal. Do I even need to tell you? Those buffets don't have just one or two dishes to tempt you, they have dozens! Hey, who needs that kind of temptation when weight-loss is your goal, huh? Those buffet dishes are usually loaded with salt, sugar, fat and, oh yes, lots of...calories!So please, be careful when choosing a restaurant to dine in. But okay, I have to end this message by telling you this. If I were dying and had only a little time left to live, I'd have someone take me to every all-you-can-eat buffet in town...before I went to that great buffet line in the sky!
