ONE MORE REASON

Wednesday, 09 November 2011

How many times have I told you that you need

to move that body of yours body if you want to get

healthy and...stay healthy? Well, I know

I've told you...thousands of times! But I

also like you to hear what others have to say about

the importance of exercise and maintaining the proper

weight.

I was watching a story on NBC

Nightly News last week that linked our

sedentary lifestyles with an increased risk of getting

cancer.

I was watching a story on NBC

Nightly News last week that linked our

sedentary lifestyles with an increased risk of getting

cancer. It really shocked me because we Americans, as

a whole, have become a lot more sedentary here in the

21st century.

We spend our days at work sitting in front of a

computer. We spend our evenings at home at our

personal computers or watching one episode after

another of our favorite TV shows. And oh yeah, for

many of us, the one thing that makes watching TV even

better is the fact that we're

snacking while

we watch! Millions of people sit each week watching Dancing

With The Stars. But while the stars are

struttin' their stuff, we sit at home struttin'

our hands through

that bowl of Doritos sitting next to our easy chairs. (Oh,

my!)

In a study of 26-36 year-olds, those watching more

than three hours of TV daily were more likely to have

excess fat around their waists. The same was true for

middle-aged adults in their 40's and 50's. The more

they sat, the higher their percentage of body fat.

Their body masses were also higher than those people's

who tended to be more active. And get this,

among children 2-5 years olds, a higher weight was

more common with those kids who watched more than two

hours of TV daily. (No surprise there, right?) So

what does all this have to do with cancer?

The more fat you have

around your waist, the more hormonal,

inflammation-producing proteins are pumped continuously into your

bloodstream.

Well, a recent study found that the more fat you have

around your waist, the more hormonal,

inflammation-producing proteins are pumped continuously into your

bloodstream. And here's where the news gets grim.

This process plays a role in those dreaded cancer

producing cells that may invade our bodies.

You know, sometimes I hate sharing this kind of

information with you because I know how scary it is to

think about. But that doesn't change the fact that

the news is true. And the bottom line is that you need

to know it!

That's why I keep stressing how important it is for

you to get that body of yours moving...everyday!

So yep, now you've got one more

good reason to exercise! (As if you

didn't have enough good reasons already.) That's

right, you've got to get away from that computer and

your TV to take a nice walking break. If you're

watching three to four hours, or more, of

TV a day, you need to cut that TV-watching time in

half and devote some time to a really good-for-you

workout!

Look, I want you all to live long, healthy lives.

But, if you're not active, then you're only going to

end up cutting that life of yours short. And hey, to

me...that's a really scary

thought!

Love,
