Guest guest
YOU'RE AS COLD AS ICE Friday, 16 December 2011 So tell me, what's the weather like these days where you live? Los Angeles has been very cold lately. It gets down into the low 40's at night. Hey, don't laugh, all of you people up there in Minnesota! Thatis cold for us. (Even our palm trees are shivering!) We've been getting a lot of rain lately, too. Hey, truth is, unless you live at the southern tip of Florida, chances are, winter has probably hit your neck-of-the-woods. Taking good care of your skin as the temperatures plummet this winter is more important than ever. We all have our favorite times of the year. Some people like the warmer months and sunshine of summer. But I know others look forward to the cold weather and winter snowfall. But, no matter where you live, I want to put you on alert that taking good care of your skin as the temperature on your thermometers plummet this winter is more important than ever. We're indoors a lot more often during these colder months. And did you know? Your skin can suffer just as much indoors as it does outdoors in the hot sun. For one thing, that toasty, warm air blowing from your home's heating system is very low in humidity and can quickly dehydrate your skin. That's why it's important this time of year to use plenty of lotion to help keep your skin and face moisturized. To protect your lips, make sure you keep a tube of lip balm in your purse or pocket. Now to protect your lips, make sure to keep a tube of lip balm in your purse or pocket. My own lips get very dry all year long. That's because, during my many travels, I end up kissing so many people! I've been using a brand of lip balm called Kiehl's for years. They're based here in Los Angeles and maybe you've heard of them? (Their products are available nationally now.) In fact, the owner of the company used to come into my salad bar in Beverly Hills way back in the 70's. I've tried other brands of lip balms but Kiehl's keeps my lips plump and kissable. Hey, bring on that mistletoe! LOL. Another thing you need to do this winter to care for your skin is take lukewarm showers and baths. Hot baths and showers have a "stripping" affect on your skin. By that, I mean they wash away the natural oils that help keep your skin smooth and moist. This winter, I want your cheeks as rosy-looking as Santa's! And one more thing, I know it's already more like 9 degrees in some places rather than the 90 degrees we get during the summer months. But even though you're not exposed as much to the sun this time of year, too much winter sun can also be harmful to your skin. How? It's the sun's UVA waves. They actually have an aging affect on the skin and, hey, who needs that? Always wear a sunscreen during the winter to help screen out those harmful UVA waves. So, this winter I want those cheeks of yours rosy as Santa's! Summer may be behind us but during these cold winter months, you've still got to take extra good care of that beautiful skin of yours!
