WHY EVEN BOTHER?

Thursday, 24 March 2011

There's

a lady who comes to Slimmons and I just adore her.

She's originally from Seattle but moved south to Los

Angeles when her husband's job transferred him to

California. She and her husband have two kids and

her youngest is just two years-old.

She's

one of our regulars and comes to the club

faithfully, just about everyday to get in her

workouts. And boy, let me tell you, she really

works out hard! I've seen such progress in her, not

only with the intensity of her workouts but I know

she's really taken control of her eating habits,

too. She got herself a FoodMover as soon as she

joined the club. I took the time to review it with

her and we discussed what she should be eating to

lose the weight. We also talked about those

all-important portion sizes. And, like with most

people, she was truly surprised to see what the

proper portions sizes were for many of the foods she

eats.

Well, in the first four months, her hard work really

paid off and she lost 22 pounds. At

first, she wore all black outfits to class but I was

delighted to see her switch to brightly-colored tops

and bottoms to sweat in as she began dropping the

pounds.

But one day, I noticed when she entered class

that she wasn't as happy and upbeat as usual. She

looked very down and sad, almost as if she'd been

crying before she walked into Slimmons. I wasn't

used to seeing her looking like that so after class,

I went up to have a little private talk with her.

You're not going to believe what had happened.

She

told me how good she'd been feeling about losing

those first 22 pounds. But before leaving for class

that day, wearing one of her more

form-fitting workout outfits, she asked her husband

a couple of questions. "Honey," she asked

him, "haven't you noticed that I've lost

weight? I've lost 22 pounds so far...can you

tell?"

Well, the response from her husband was...nothing.

I mean, he didn't say anything to her at all...not

a word! His non-response upset

her so much that she simply turned around, walked

out of the room, headed for the car and drove

directly to Slimmons. But on the drive to the club,

she was crying and thinking to herself, "Why am

I trying to lose this weight? Why even bother?"

No wonder she looked so unhappy when she walked into

the club that day!

After she shared with me what happened, I looked

right into her eyes and reminded her of who

she was working to lose the weight for. No, she was

not losing the weight for her husband. She was

losing this weight for herself! And she

had to keep reminding herself of that fact.

I'm

sure that many of you ladies know from experience

that some guys, especially those husbands, can't say

anything about your weight unless it's something

negative. Shame on them! And I'm truly

sorry if your man falls into that category. I'm

sorry if your husband doesn't know how to be your

cheerleader. But hey, even if he's not, you know...I

am. (And don't you forget it!) Please...don't

let anyone or any-thing get in the way of

you reaching your weight-loss goal. Will you

promise me that?

Why even bother trying to lose the weight?

Well, the answer is simple...because you deserve

it!

Love,
