HOW DO YOU DO

IT?

Friday, 18 March 2011

I received an E-mail this past

weekend from a lady named Marsha. She'd

been watching me on television for years. Marsha was

always impressed by my energy, my enthusiasm and the

way I made fitness fun. In fact, she was so

impressed that she ended up becoming an aerobics

instructor herself.

But after that, her news began to get a little

gloomy. After having two beautiful children, Marsha

had begun gaining some not so beautiful

pounds. On top of that, as she got older, she faced a

number of medical issues that led to her having four

surgeries. She'd lost weight years ago but all of the

weight she'd lost found its way back onto her body.

Marsha talked about how she used to be the person who

motivated everyone else. But now, it's hard for her

to even get out of bed in the mornings, let alone

motivate herself to exercise. Her "motivation-well"

had gone bone-dry.

Now Marsha was turning to me, asking how have I've

managed to stay so motivated for all of these years.

Well, that's a very good question, Marsha. Truth is,

I stay motivated because I've made being fit and

healthy a daily part of my life.

Now here, I have to tell you that I always wanted to

be a cheerleader but...it never happened. LOL. But

you know what I did? Well, I became a cheerleader

anyway...for myself! That's right, I was

going to root for myself everyday to have the

healthiest way of life and the healthiest body

possible.

I would get up each

morning, look in the mirror and give myself a little

pep talk and, I'm telling you, I did it everyday! I

would look myself in the eye and say...

", you've been given a

brand new day. How fantastic is that? And you're

not going to waste even one second of it. You're

going to do things today that'll make you feel

great. You're going to get in an hour of cardio to

burn some calories. You're going to plan your meals

and snacks and make sure you drink eight, 8-ounce

glasses of water today. You're going to be kind to

yourself and to everyone you meet. And why are you

going to do all this? Well, because you're a

fabulous person, . So make this the best day

possible for yourself and share that attitude with

everyone you meet. Now, go get 'em. tiger!"

And after my little cheer to my leader, (me), I would

get this really positive feeling all over. I'd think

to myself, is so right! And with

that first-thing-in-the-morning attitude adjustment, I

was ready to start my day. I was going to carry that

positive I can do it attitude with me all day

long. And the next day, I'd give myself a cheer

again before beginning another brand new healthy day.

And Marsha, you must do the same. In fact, we all

have to do it. We can't allow the "detours" in our

lives to dictate the way we feel about ourselves. In

spite of our challenges, we have to remain focused and

determined. That's right, Marsha and...all of you,

every morning, get those pom-poms out, walk up to that

mirror, look yourself in the eye and give yourself a

big cheer to begin your day, every day of

your life.

Now you may be tempted to think this idea is a corn

ball little way to start your day. Oh yeah?

Well, all I can say is...take a look at me!

I'm living proof that giving yourself a good cheer in

that mirror every morning can help you stay

motivated to take good care of yourself and reach your

weight-loss goals.

Yep, that's how I do do

it...that's how I stay motivated. And you

can, too. Now Marha, and all the rest of you...Go get 'em, tigers!

Love,
