WHAT TO DO?

Friday, 27 May 2011

You've been invited to

have dinner at a friend's house. And let's face

it, we all love going out to eat, whether at a

friend's home or out to a good restaurant. And

isn't it nice when a friend takes the time to

prepare a nice home-cooked meal for you? But

wait...there can be a problem with those

invitations. I'm talking about when you've been

working hard on your weight-loss program and

then...one of those invitations comes your way.

In fact, you've been

doing very well on your weight-loss

program. And one of the reasons you've been doing

so well is that you've not been eating out at

all. You've been staying home more often

and preparing your own home-cooked meals which has

allowed you better control of what and how much

you eat. But this invitation comes your way and

the question now is...What do you do?

Well, let's look at your choices.

You can simply show up at your friend's home and

eat very small portions of all the foods that're

served. But there's a problem with this choice.

That is, you're surrounded by people who're not

eating smaller portions like you're trying to do.

And when you see everyone else having those large

portions, it may just "inspire" you to do the

same. I mean, there you are the dinner table

listening to everyone rave about how good

everything is! At the same time, you're having a

little taste of this and just a bite of that.

Hey, you're not having very much fun now, are

you? So, for obvious reasons, this choice doesn't

work. Temptation may get the best of you. And we

all know that if you veer off program and start

eating more, you'll leave your friend's house with

a weight gain. And hey, you don't want that, do

you?

Your second choice is to

bring your own food to your friend's dinner. And

should you prepare your own meal at home

and bring it to the dinner? Well, of course not.

Can you think of a quicker way to hurt your host's

feelings? So no, that choice won't work either.

Your third choice is to just sit there with

everyone else enjoying the meal while you drink

only water. Whoa! That's about as

insulting as the last choice I gave you, right?

You can't do that, either

Now there is one smart choice and that is to call

your host ahead of time and explain your

situation. Let your host know that you've been

working hard to lose weight for the past six

weeks. In fact, you've lost your first 12 pounds

and want to keep those numbers on your scale going

down. Then let your host know that you're a

little nervous about consuming too many calories

at the dinner party. And you know what? I'm

willing to bet your host will understand and, most

likely, respect you! To help, she may

even make a special dish for you, a nice salad and

grill you a piece of chicken or fish without the

rich sauce that'll be on everyone else's plate.

And who knows, your host may have been planning to

serve a healthy dish, after all. So plan ahead.

All you have to do is make the call!

Here's something else

you should think about. You've been very

successful staying on program and now, you're a

little stronger than when you began. And because

you have been doing so well, I'll bet

you're a little stronger. And that means you'll

be better prepared to face-down those tempting

foods.

That's what you're going to have to do for the

rest of your life, you know. Whether you're

dining at a friend's home or out at a fancy

restaurant, it's all about being in control of the

food and taking good care of YOU!

Love,
