Guest guest
ONE SERVING Tuesday, 30 August 2011 Do you love cold cereals? I was raised eating them. Sugar Smacks and Sugar Pops were two of my favorites. And by the way, even thought the ingredients are still the same in them both, they're now called Corn Pops and Corn Smacks. (Wink, wink!) I'd open that box of cereal then fill by bowl to the brim. Those little Sugar Smacks would just sing as they filled my bowl. Then came the milk-pouring ritual. I knew I'd poured enough milk when a few of those Sugar Smacks spilled from my bowl onto the table. Okay, that's enough! They'd be floating in the bowl and now, it was time to grab my spoon and dig in! Back then, not once did I ever think about what one serving of breakfast cereal was. Are you kidding? Heck, we didn't care anything about serving sizes back then. And I'm not gonna lie to you, sometimes, after that first bowl of cereal, I'd pour myself a second bowl, too! I'm not the only person who didn't worry about portion sizes back then. Hey, most Americans didn't and, believe me, many of them still don't. And how about you? Today, in our more health-conscious society, the USDA requires that all of our pre-packaged foods include nutritional labels to tell us everything we need to know about the foods we're eating. But the print on those labels is so small, you'd better get your glasses out to read them! LOL. My father wasn't so worried about the portion sizes he served back in New Orleans. He made one incredible New York Steak. And hey, he didn't have some little scale on the table so he could measure the portions as he served us either. He'd just eyeball and slice a huge piece of that steak for me to enjoy. And boy, did I ever enjoy it! But when we don't pay attention to our portion sizes, what happens? Oh, you know. We end up eating more than we should and...we end up gaining weight! So, do you need to lose weight? Well, when you cut your serving sizes, you cut your calories and that's when you begin to lose weight. Hey, how simple is that? Just about everyday, I'll receive an E-mail from someone looking for my old Deal-A-Meal weight-loss program. As most of you know, Deal-A-Meal was replaced by my FoodMover which is a more updated version. The FoodMover is based on portion sizes. I researched and found the correct portion sizes of thousands of foods and built my FoodMover on those correct numbers. For instance, one ounce of cold cereal equals one portion. If you have four ounces of beef, that would mean closing four of the protein windows on your FoodMover. It's a foolproof system that helps to make sure you're eating the proper portion sizes of all the foods you should be eating from the six food groups. So, do you know your correct serving sizes? Or are you just eyeballing your foods, (like my dad used to do), and eating as much as you want? Hey, you're gonna gain weight if you're eating like that! Maybe you should get yourself a FoodMover so you can teach yourself how to eat the right size portions and then you can teach your family how to do it too.
