OH, THE PAIN!

Monday, 18 April 2011

As you probably already know, most

Americans are less active today than they were 10-15

years ago. (And isn't that sad?) Millions of

Americans have turned their backs on working out.

And, many of them have done so for the same old

overused excuses...I have no time to exercise,

for instance. Or something like...Joining a gym

is too expensive. Oh, you know, the list just

goes on-and-on!

But really, the bottom line is

that it's all more about people being a little

lazy. Yep, too lazy to make time for doing the

right thing and making exercise a dedicated part of

their lives. Now when you don't take good care of

your bones, joints and muscles by working out, you can

end up being in a lot of pain. And, let's face it,

none us like dealing with...pain! Do we?

For decades, we've been talking about one disease in

particular that strikes many Americans...arthritis.

Back when I was a kid, arthritis seemed to be a

disease that struck mostly older people. Oh, they had

to deal with the arthritis in their backs, knees,

fingers or their shoulders. Those of you my

age remember when some older people felt they were

able to predict a good rain because the arthritis in

their knee was acting up. (Do they still do that?)

But due to our inactivity, not only are

older Americans still getting arthritis but it's now

showing up more often in middle-aged people.

And wait...even some young adults are

showing signs of arthritis.

Arthritis is a degenerative joint

disease and yes, it can be very painful. And I should

know because I have to deal with it here-and-there a

little in my own body.

When people suffer an arthritis flare-up, the first

thing they really don't feel like doing is

exercise. But, according to a researcher at

Stanford University, the most dangerous exercise for

an arthritis sufferer to do is...none! Do

you get it? That means not exercising at all will

only make your arthritis worse.

Now if you have a weight problem, your arthritis pain

will only be more severe. Here's why. See, for every

pound you're overweight, it adds four more pounds of

stress to say, your knees. So let's do a little math

here. If you're 25 pounds overweight, multiply that 25

by 4 and see? You're putting an additional 100

pounds of stress on those hard-working knees of

yours. Hey, no wonder you're in so much pain!

But if you begin losing weight, you can actually

decrease the pain you're suffering because you'll be

relieving some of that stress on your joints. If

you're among the millions of Americans suffering from

arthritis pain, I'm sorry. But wait. Today, I've got

some good advice for you. And that is to...get

moving!

Now, no high-impact aerobics classes for you. Oh no,

that's not good for the pain. You want to opt for low

or non-impact exercises like swimming, cycling,

walking or water-aerobics.

Toning exercise are also great for you if you're

suffering with arthritis. Don't go for the heavy

weights. Choose some lighter-weight dumbbells. You

can also use resistance cords or bands like the ones

you'll find in my Clubhouse

store. I'm telling you, toning eases the

pain for you, my friends.

Oh, the pain? Well, get to work moving that

body of yours because, hey...you haven't got time

for the pain!

Love,
