Guest guest
IF I COULD TURN BACK TIME Thursday, 10 March 2011 I know I've been home for nearly a week but my trip to Auckland is still on my mind. I wish I could have stayed longer. New Zealand is a very interesting country for exploring and it's filled with so much history. When I'm taking a long trip like that, I like to see where on the earth I'm going. So I checked out a world atlas and saw that New Zealand sits very close to the International Date Line. It's the "line" on the globe that divides one day from the next. When I came back from Auckland, I left Saturday evening at 7:00PM, their time. I was quite tired from shooting my spots and the big exercise class I'd taught earlier in the day. Once I boarded my flight, I cozied up with the new novel called Tick Tock. After a couple of hours reading, I put my book away, closed my eyes and it wasn't long before I was sound asleep. When we arrived back in Los Angeles after 12 hours of flying, get this, it was 10:30 Saturday morning. Now don't forget, I left Auckland at 7PM, local time, the night before. How is that possible? Well, our flight crossed the International Date Line and Auckland is 19 hours ahead of Los Angeles. That's 19 hours...into the future from LA. So I guess you could say my flight home was sort of like being on a "time machine" rather than a jet plane. And the whole experience got me thinking. What if you could turn back the hands of time? You know, like Back To The Future with J. Fox. If you could, tell me, what would you do differently? Would you have eaten better when you were younger? Would you have exercised more often and drank more water everyday? Would you be thinner today if you'd known better yesterday? A lot of people spend a lot of time regretting their pasts. They sit, staring at the ceiling while playing the whole "woulda-shoulda-coulda" game. But hey, Back To The Future was only a movie We cannot change the past. We've already lived those moments, hours and days of our yesteryears. Besides that, when you spend too much time regretting the past, you only end up depressed which may push you to food for "comfort." And when you do that, what do you end up with? Well, something else to be depressed about...a weight gain! The past is just that, past...as in over. What matters today is today. And I'm talking about as in what you can do, starting today, to build a happier future for yourself. I think about my own future everyday. Actually I plan it. I make goals for myself that I want to meet every single month. There are things I want for myself when I turn 65, 70 years-old and older. I want to be healthy in my future. And that means I need to eat the healthiest foods and exercise daily to protect my body and my health. And what about your future? What do you want to happen for you as the years go by? Please, do yourselves a real favor. Don't dwell on the past...learn from it. Start today planning your future, just like I do. Think of your future as an adventure just waiting to happen. Now, get to work planning that happy adventure of a future for yourself...starting today! Love,
Guest guest
Interesting. I have done that a few times, crossing the oceans and the time changes. We do this on the truck, crossing all the American time zones, in order to figure out real local times for correct delivery times. But time is a human concept. The only time that truly exists is the present moment. The moment we live in is perpetual. What we choose to do right now, in the moment is all that truly matters. This is why I nip the thought “tomorrow is a new day†crap in the bud. We cannot correct bad eating tomorrow, we can only correct it NOW. There is nothing wrong with making plans for tomorrow, or setting goals. There is nothing wrong with reviewing the past and the things we did that brought us problems today. But the only action that can change our lives is what we do in the present moment. Anyone else have thoughts on this???
