Guest guest
IT'S A BIRD...IT'S A PLANE... Friday, 25 February 2011 It's Superman! I bought Superman comic books a lot when I was a kid. And I also loved the old black & white Superman TV show, too. I just loved when he went into a phone booth, wearing a regular suit then, seconds later, come out of the phone booth in that fabulous red and blue outfit of his! But one thing I noticed that we never saw Superman doing is...eating! Oh sure, you might see him flying through the sky, saving Lois Lane or defeating some villian out to take over Metropolis. But seriously, when did we ever see Superman with a fork in his hand? Well anyway, I'm sure when he did eat, Superman had to be eating, well...Super Foods! As you've watched TV lately, I'm sure you've been hearing a lot about Super Foods. Now you may think it's all hype but oh no, it's true. There really are Super Foods out there. Imagine a food....not a drug that helps lower your cholesterol and helps reduce your risk of having heart disease or cancer. Plus, there's a bonus. Super Foods can actually put you in a better mood. And oh yeah, they do all this without the negative side-effects you always hear near the end of those drug commercials. (Unless you consider walking down the street whistling a happy tune a negative side-effect. LOL.) All of the Super Foods we're going to talk about today are in your local supermarket. No weird or exotic foods here. You know, the ones you can only get in some upscale, specialty supermarket and cost a fortune. You can find all of these Super Foods at your local Walmart, Super Target or any grocery store near your home. Now I have to tell you something, don't think that you can have these foods just a couple of times and they're going to suddenly correct every one of your health problems. You have to work these foods into your daily meal plan. On the list of Super Foods, you'll find blueberries and boy, aren't they delicious mixed with non-fat vanilla yogurt? They're also excellent topping a hot bowl of oatmeal. (And by the way, oatmeal is another Super Food.) There are several green Super Foods. Two of my favorites are broccoli and spinach. Their dark color lets you know they're green, mean and ready to go to work protecting your body. Broccoli and spinach are great in stir-fry or rice dishes. And hey, what's wrong with having a great-tasting, good-for-you vegetable plate for dinner every now and then? Oh, you'd feel so good after eating it. I know I do! The Super Foods list goes on. There's beans, oranges, tomatoes and...did you know that turkey was a Super Food? (It's one of my faves!) You can add tea to your Super Foods list too, green or black. All of these foods are loaded with vitamins, essential minerals and those disease-fighting antioxidants you hear so much about these days. Here's something I liked reading. One of the nutritional experts pointed out that 50-70% of many diseases can be prevented, eliminated or their effects on our bodies reduced by...what we eat. That's why it's so important to fill your body with these natural Super Foods instead of all that processed stuff too many Americans live on. Hmmm, now if I had Superman over for dinner, what would I serve? Let's see, I'd make him a nice piece of poached salmon, some broccoli cooked with garlic and onion along with a bean & brown rice casserole. For dessert, we'd have a yogurt parfait topped with fresh blueberries and walnuts. Mmmm, doesn't that sound like a...SUPER MEAL! Love, Kent. No, wait! I mean...
