In the weight-loss world, it's the battle

royal. If

I want to lose weight, which one should I cut back

on or eliminate altogether from my meals. Fats or

carbohydrates? Well, get ready because the

answer to that question is...neither.

Even the medical

community disagrees on whether it's better to cut back

on fats or carbs when you're working to lose weight.

Oh, I know, low-carb weight-loss programs were all the

rage a few years ago. Maybe not as much today but the

battle between fats and carbs goes on in the diet

world. In fact, even the medical community has no

shortage of disagreements on whether it's better to

cut back on fats or carbs when you're working to lose

weight. But here's the surprising bottom line: They're

both nutrients, essential to your good health.

You just have to be sure and eat them in the right

amounts.

The National Institutes of Health in the December

issue of its News

in Health newsletter

said this: When

it comes to weight-loss, the source of calories,

whether from fat, protein or carbohydrates---isn't

as important as the

number of calories you consume.

But I want you to also consider this from The Centers

For Disease Control. The CDC traces

America's problems with obesity to a major increase in

our consumption of carbohydrates. But here's the

thing, most of those added carbohydrates are coming

from the highly

processed foods we talked

about a few days ago. (Not from the complex

carbs our

bodies need.)

A good, well-balanced food

program will make sure you get enough nutrients, in

the right amounts, from all six of the major food

groups.

Look, how many times have I told you that a good,

well-balanced food program will make sure you get

of the major food groups. Let's review them again: Fats.

Carbohydrates. Protein. Dairy. Fruits &

Vegetables.
