MY EVIL TWIN!

Saturday, 14 January 2012

There was an interesting story on the cover

of this month's National

Geographic magazine

devoted to twins. Curious, I thumbed through the

article and read about how twins, sometimes, seem to

anticipate each other's actions. (Pretty amazing,

huh?) But the entire article got me thinking.

When I was growing up, I had a

twin.

See, when I was growing up, I also had

a twin. Oh,

he and I did everything together back in New Orleans'

French Quarter and especially...eat! My twin and I

knew all the best spots for oyster Po-boys and our

favorite playground was the candy aisle at the Royal

Street A & P.

My twin never met a praline or a beignet he didn't

like. But as I got older, can you imagine what was

happening to me? That's right, I was gaining more and

more weight. Whenever I thought about losing the

weight, my evil twin would step in and tell me, "Oh,

! You're still young, you've got plenty of

time to lose that weight. But right now, let's go

check out that box of Whitman's Sampler chocolates

in the living room." Oh! What

was it about that twin of mine that I just couldn't

say NO to?!

The day finally came where I had to say

NO to

my evil twin!

Well, the day finally came where I had to say

NO to

my evil twin! See, my weight had gotten completely

out of control. I hated the way I looked in my

clothes. I hated the stares I got from people on the

street and, worst of all, I begin hating the way I

felt about me!

Fast forward to today and yes, I've learned to say no, everyday,

to that evil twin of mine. And oh yes, he's still

around. No, he's not back in New Orleans dining on

fried shrimp, (tarter sauce on the side), and French

fries. You know where he is? He still

lives inside me!

He tries his best to get me to have a double

cheeseburger and onion rings. He pops into my head

any time I walk past the Ben & Jerry's section of

my grocery store's frozen foods section. See, I told

you...he's still there. But I've learned

that living a long and healthy life won't be possible

as long as I'm listening to and taking the bad advice

of my evil twin.

And let me ask...is there an evil twin living inside you?

Is he or she always trying to get you to go off

program and sabotage your weight-loss efforts? Well,

don't listen to your twin...listen to me!

Your evil twin is

interested in only one thing. The instant

gratification you get from overeating.

Your evil twin is interested in only one thing. The

instant gratification you get from overeating. The

food tastes so-o-o good

and you love that feeling of satisfaction when you

overat. But the next day, heck, maybe even in the

next hour...how do you feel? Oh, oh...is that

guilt you're feeling? Is it sadness? Are you asking

yourself, why...WHY did I listen to the little

voice in my head that made me do that?

I don't even have to tell you. That little voice is

always there. (So's mine.) Yes, that little voice is your evil

twin and

he or she does not have your best interest at heart

when it comes to your weight and good health. So, the

next time your evil twin comes calling, telling you to

go ahead and have that big slice of cheesecake? Well,

you know what to say to your twin, don't you? That's

right. It's that simple little two-letter word...NO!

Love,
