TOFU 4-U?

Saturday, 03 December 2011

I know a lot of vegetarians. You know of

course, they don't eat anything that swims, flies or

walks on four legs. That's right, vegetarians allow

no animal products to enter their mouths.

I was a vegetarian for a

while, way back in the 70's.

I was a vegetarian for a while, way back in the 70's.

Back then, Los Angeles didn't have very many strictly

vegetarian eateries. But boy, has that ever changed.

Seems a new vegetarian restaurant is popping up all

the time, not only in here in Los Angeles but all over

the country. And at those restaurants, one thing

you're sure to find on every one of their menus, in

one form or another is...TOFU.

Tofu is made from soy beans and water. Vegetarians

like tofu because it's high in calcium and

protein. Tofu is also known for its ability to absorb

the flavors of other foods it's cooked with or

marinated in. Tofu is widely used in Asian cuisine

and just about every vegetarian I know keeps tofu in

their fridge as an important staple item.

4-ounces of tofu contains

just over 10 grams of protein.

4-ounces of tofu contains just over 10 grams of

protein. If you're a vegetarian using the FoodMover,

you should close one protein window for each ounce of

tofu you have. Now let's do some comparisons.

A half-cup of whole milk contains 5 grams of

protein. One egg contains 6 grams. With its 10 grams

of protein, you can see why tofu is a great choice for

those vegetarians looking for a rich, non-animal

source of protein. Here's some more nutritional

information about tofu you'll find interesting. .

That 4-ounce serving of tofu contains only 94

calories. Now, let's compare that to 4-ounces of

ground beef, shall we? Okay, the 4-ounce serving of

ground beef contains 331 calories. So you can see how

tofu can take the place of meat, providing you the

protein you need without heaping on the calories...and

fat!

If you haven't already,

maybe you should give tofu a try.

I know I've talked a lot about vegetarians' love for

tofu today but, truth is, tofu is an excellent source

of protein for anyone. Maybe even you? So if you

haven't already, maybe you should give tofu a try.

You can find thousands of tofu recipes on the

Internet. Just Google Tofu Recipes and...you'll see!

Hey, you could become a tofu expert and maybe even

come up with some of your own recipes for this healthy

alternative to meat.

Now I'll end this message with a question...TOFU,

4-U?

Love,
