THE HUMAN TOUCH

Thursday, 20 October 2011

Seems every other week, a new high-tech

gadget comes along for us to buy and use. My

goodness, that new cell phone you just bought last

month? Well, it's already an antique! LOL.

Sometimes I look into the car next to me to

see what the person driving is doing.

I don't drive anymore. In fact, I've never been

that great a driver. So, I'm usually the passenger

while someone else drives. And being a passenger

allows me to be a good observer. Sometimes I look

into the car next to me to see what the person

driving is doing.

It's not uncommon for me to see a lady putting on

her lipstick or mascara. Then I'll see what looks

like a driver talking to himself. That is, until I

notice that he has an earpiece and is actually

talking on the phone. Hands

free, thank you. Then I see

lots of people actually texting while

driving. And come on, that's really dangerous.

I mean, not only for all of the other people driving

around you but it's dangerous for you,

too! So please, if you're one of those people who

likes to drive and text at the same time, I want you

to stop it, okay?

It seems the whole world is on Facebook these days,

(including me), and they always notify you when one

of your friends has a birthday coming up. So what

do you do? You pull up an E-card and send it to

your friend to wish them a happy birthday. Oh,

that's nice of you.

I just bought a new laptop to take along

with me on our Cruise To Lose.

But okay, I'll admit it. I'm caught up in all of

the new high-tech stuff, too. In fact, I just

bought a new laptop to take along with me on our

Cruise To Lose coming up

this weekend. And yes, all of this new technology

is fabulous. Hey, now I know what The

Jetsons felt

like. All we need now are flying cars! LOL.

But still, with all this new technology at our

disposal, we must not lose sight of the importance

of the

human touch. I think it's great to receive

an e-mail birthday card or a little note from a

friend on Facebook or Twitter. But what's really

wonderful is sitting down and handwriting a greeting

card to someone you love.

I really enjoy going out and buying cards to send to

people in the mail. One of my favorite stores is

this little chain of card shops called Papyrus.

(They also sell the line at Target.) Their logo is a

fluttering hummingbird and you know how much I love

hummingbirds. And I

love sending birthday and holiday cards, too.

Sometimes I'll buy some pretty cards that have no

message inside and, in my best penmanship, send a

handwritten personal letter to someone I love.

I love going to my mailbox and receiving a

handwritten card from someone close to me.

You know what else I love? Going to my mailbox and

receiving a handwritten card from someone close to

me. They may be writing to say hello, thank you or

simply to tell me how much they love me. But I'm

telling you, their handwritten messages always bring

a big smile to my face.

Maybe you can think of someone who needs a

little smile on their face. And you can make them

smile by sending them a personally written greeting

card from you.

So as you're becoming a tech-wizard, (like

me), please don't lose...the human touch.

Because remember, no computer can ever take the

place of...me and you!

Love,
