hanging in there

Hey everyone,

Hope you are all doing well. To be honest, from time to time I have been doing a mass email dump: either read and move on, or flat out delete them to keep my inbox empty. Sorry I am not posting much and responding to your handful of posts to cheer you along too.

"Life" is happening and keeping me from the groups right now.

Grandma is not doing to well. She's 85-ish and her health has really gone down in the past year, year and a half. I think it was in January when she was in a nursing type home for a week or two to determine the care she needed and they determined she needs 24 hr in home care, cuz her partner/husband type guy just cannot do everything she needs.

The home care givers have turned her over to hospice this week and the hospice nurse says it could be 'a few days to who knows' but she's not eating, drinking or going to the potty much so they're just trying to keep her comfortable right now.

Mom's in charge of her heavy duty meds (Oxy-something and something else) because I guess the care givers are not allowed to give those. Not sure why, but I am sure because of "abuse" or potential.

Anyway. It's sad, but I am ok with it at the same time, you know...?

Going to CA this next weekend to see my hunny (much needed) and then I am going to start regrouping and assessing where I want life to take me at this stage of the game. I'm not so sure I want to stay where I am at for employment so I need to consider how I want to train myself if necessary and move on, or if I can ride this out for 2-3 more years then I will....

I went to the nutritionist's office this week to check in and things are holding steady. Trust me, sometimes maintaining is ok, especially when it could be gaining and if you are my friend on facebook and see all of my posts about chocolate, yes, it's true chocolate is my friend some days.

Diet-wise, things are going ok. Really. I have had more breads and stuff than I should be this past week or two and I feel it: tired, bloated, scale not moving much.

Exercise-wise, I am doing pretty stellar... if I cannot get outdoors for my 2 mile walk each day because of rain or something, I have been pretty good about plugging in a video or two and doing the equavalent (sp?) in time with those, about 45 minutes total LOL because that's about how long it takes me to walk 2 miles.

College-boy is doing ok, I finally convinced him to get the flu shot (been nagging him for 6-7 weeks) and he did that last weekend. Today, I am mailing him a cold and flu care package LOL!! It's got cold meds, cough syrup and drops, kleenex and hand sanitizer, as well as a "skull and crossbones" magnet they can stick on their door if they are sick to warn their friends LOL!! I know he's bound to get something living in the dorm, just my job to try to make it as few and far between as I can, right?? Right. So, I made sure he had the meningitis vacc before going out there and now the flu shot and he should be ok. Grade-wise, not sure. I think mid-term grades will be posted next week, so I am excited to see how he is doing academically. Socially, I know he is doing great! Nutrition-wise, I am sure he's surviving that way too.

That's about it to catch you up to where I am at with things. Probably won't get online much this week and then next week after I get home from CA will all depend on what's a happening.

Take care, everyone!!

Hi Everyone,

It's been a whirlwind week for me. Grandma passed away a week ago on 10/11 and the family wanted everyone to still do their weekend plans, so we had the funeral services yesterday. It made it so I could still go to CA this weekend to see hunny, and another cousin and his wife had plans they could take advantage of. Thank goodness, I was getting sooooo burned out at work!!

Saturday (or Sunday) "grandpa" Gene, grandma's "companion/partner" for the past 25 years had a heart attack and ended up in the hospital getting a pacemaker on Monday, so he missed the services. Couldn't believe it, but have heard those things happen, I suppose... but still!

Anyway, now back to reality and "normal".... work, etc

Went to the nutritionist's office today as a pick me up and check in to regroup and reorganize my thoughts because the last 2 weeks have been crap for eating. Fortunately, damage control need is minimal LOL as the scale has maintained pretty much this past two weeks.

My mother offered to let me use some of her inheritance for WLS "if I wanted to".... oh ummmmm wow, how crazy is that?

Well, just wanted to say hello and will try to check back in to the group more often.

It's nice that it was done that way. I'm sure your grandma would

have wanted you to, if she's like mine were. They never wanted to be

a bother and put everyone else before themselves. :)

Most of the deaths in my family were always around major holidays -

one grandmother on Labor day, m-i-l 4th of July, my mom was right

after Christmas vacation, my dad and the last pope had funerals the

same day.

Too many lay-offs so you're now doing the work of 10 and getting

paid for one? And you're the one who always looked for more work to

do, seeking promotions and part time jobs, too, so it must be

*really* bad.

The poor guy! Too bad nobody thought to Skype it.

I think I'm going to insist on a consult next time I see my doc,

especially if the vitamin D levels are still dropping. After all

these years sticking about 99% to the low fat vegan food plan I'm

really starting to crave meat and have even indulged a few times.

And when I do, I feel more alert, less fatigue, less brain fog, even

less muscle and joint pain. Perhaps it's time to get away from the

starch-based diet and into a more protein based one with a bit more

fat. Unfortunately, I also start to gain more weight back because

then I have to eat less volume, less calories, and by the end of the

day I can't sleep because my stomach is gnawing in pain from being

so empty! I wish I could eat like does - she's still very low

carb, high protein according to her blog - but I'm afraid my

cholesterol will shoot up if I do.

I hear ya! Until we get Ed's aunt's house settled we're going to be

the same around here.

that?

She's watching too much tv, seeing too many ads and billboards

advertising it. Send her here:

Hi! LOL The only reason I got even this hour to be on-line today is

the rain outside and the fact that Henry needed one car today and

the other is in the shop getting a new radiator. Tomorrow I have

some shopping to do for the house (the aunt never got smoke or CO2

alarms in and it won't pass fire inspection without them), have to

go *to* the house to install them and make sure everything else is

OK for the buyer's inspection Friday. Friday I have my eye doc

appointment so I won't be able to see clearly for a few hours

afterwards (Darn dilating drops!), then Saturday we have to meet

someone else at the aunt's house who may want to buy some of the

furniture that's left. I hope everything goes well with this sale

and the closing goes through on Dec 2nd as planned. I'll be so glad

to get that place off our hands and we'll never have to drive to

that part of NJ any more! Then all that's left is to get 60 years'

worth of stuff that filled a 3 bedroom plus finished basement plus

attic plus 2-car garage house that's piled up in my 5 room

apartment. It looks like a warehouse around here and I feel I need a

hardhat just to get from the bedroom to the bathroom!
