WILL THEY EVER

LEARN?

Thursday, 07 April 2011

I was reading an article on the

web the other day about some of the wacky new diets

people are trying. And let me tell ya', there're some

really outrageous ones out there, too. I think the

worse one I read about was called the Twinkies

Diet. (No, I'm serious!) And how do you lose

weight on the Twinkies Diet? Well, by eating nothing

but Twinkies...period! Oh yeah, those

delightful sponge cakes filled with something they

call "cream."

Another one that really made me do

a big LOL was The Couch Potato Diet. (I'm

not making this stuff up!) Can't you just imagine

someone laying on the couch watching a show trumpeting

the benefits of a Couch Potato Diet. I guess that's

kinda like one couch potato giving nutritional advice

to another!

Now some of these diets may sound funny but seriously,

they're no laughing matter. Over the years, I've

watched as one zany diet after another came and went.

I really don't know how they can buy time on TV to

sell "food programs" that are simply...fad diets.

They're purely temporary plans for eating that teach

you NO life's lessons about losing weight, none!

You can never stay on these diets for long, either.

Why? Because they're just plain ridiculous, that's

why! I mean, how many Twinkies can a person eat and

still maintain good health?

Way back when I first began working to lose weight,

there were all kinds of crazy diets around. One lady

had one diet that featured only fruits. Okay, but

there was another diet where you simply ate all of the

steak and bacon you wanted. (I hear there's a new

version of it out today.) And who can forget the

totally fat-free diet? I wonder how long the average

person was able to stay on that one, LOL.

So let's say you stay on some

crazy diet for oh, two weeks. But after that short

time, you admit it's diet and you can't

exist eating that way. So you go off the fad diet

only to regain those few pounds you may have managed

to lose on it. Then you feel defeated, find yourself

lying on the couch, flipping through the channels on

your TV in search of the next "diet flavor-of

the-month." (Oh, I wanna groan!)

I just don't get it. I mean, those people who've gone

on-and-off one silly diet plan after another still

manage to see "hope" in the next diet-scheme that

comes down the pike. Will they ever learn?

When will they teach themselves about the six food

groups and the right amount of food they should be

eating from each of those groups, everyday?

And here's the thing, you really can eat a lot of good

foods on a healthy weight-loss program. And

yes, the key thought is that you can lose weight by following

a sensible food program and making exercise a

dedicated part of your life.

So will you do me and yourself

a favor? If you're following one of these

not-so-smart diet programs, get off it now

and learn how to eat the right-size amounts of

the right foods. It's time for

you to get...BACK TO BASICS to lose all of

the weight you need to lose. And hey, that's exactly

what I've been telling you to do for all of these

years.

Love,
