Guest guest
DETOX & CLEANING: PART 2 Saturday, 09 April 2011 Yesterday, we talked about detoxing and making our bodies clean. Well today, we're going to talk about keeping where we live clean. Yep, it's spring-cleaning time, everybody! And you may be surprised to know that I'm like a professional cleaner. No, seriously. Don't ask me why but I've always just loved to clean! Back at our home in New Orleans, I'd take out a can of Pledge and go to work. I'd begin in the dining room, cleaning that dining room table until it sparkled and was ready for our next scrumptious meal. Next, with my can of Pledge in hand, I'd head for the bedrooms. Then I'd take on the living room as I put a sparkling shine to the coffee and end tables. We didn't have Windex at our house and back then, I'd clean the windows with a solution of water and vinegar. I used newspapers with that mixture to make those windows so clear, you wouldn't even know there was a pane of glass there! Boy, was I ever good! I was good with that Spic & Span, too when I took on mopping the kitchen floor. I even did the laundry at our house. I would fold the clothes ever no neatly, as good as the people did in one of those fancy cleaners in the French Quarter. You could always count on my bedroom to be empicably clean. I'm telling you, Good Housekeeping could come in and taken photos any time! My favorite cleaning job in the house was vacuuming. Oh how I loved to see those little carpet fibers perk us as I ran that vacuum across them. I guess they must have felt like they were getting a little massage. LOL. My mother worked all day at Maison Blanche department store on Canal Street. And after a hard day at work, I always wanted her to come home to find a very clean house and...she loved it! (Hey, maybe that's why I loved cleaning so much, because I loved making my mom...happy!) Now enough about me and my cleaning. How about you? Do you love to clean? Okay, so do you like to clean? Or...do you just loathe the idea of cleaning? Well, no matter how you feel about cleaning, you have to make it a top priority to keep that home of yours...clean as a whistle! And hey, there's no better day to take on that cleaning than Saturday. And oh my, what luck...today is Saturday! Okay, I want you to stand back, take a good look around your house and decide where you want to begin. Maybe you should start in your closet. Go through all of your clothes and see what you don't need or wear anymore. (You know, like those clothes that've gotten too big for you because of your weight-loss!) Fold them up, fill a few Hefty bags and give them to a worthwhile charity like Goodwill or the Salvation Army. Move your winter clothes to the back of the closet then bring all of your spring and summer stuff to the front. Next, take on your kitchen. Begin by going through your fridge, one shelf and one drawer at a time. Remove everything from the fridge, decide what can stay, throw out the rest and arrange everything neatly so you know where everything is in your refrigerator. Be sure to make all of those shelves and drawers gleam before you put the foods back inside. After you're finished with the fridge, go through your freezer and do the same thing. I'm telling you, it'll feel like you have a brand new fridge! Okay, now you've got to tackle those cabinets. Get rid of the foods you know you shouldn't be putting into your body. And hey, how long has that box of crackers been in there, anyway? Check product expiration dates and chunk those foods that're past their "sell-by" dates. And by the way, there's one other thing you have to clean today and...this is important. You need to clean your mind! That's right, you have to get rid of all the negative thoughts and feelings that have made you so sad and unhappy. Search your memories for the things that'll put a smile on your face and yes, they are there! When you're thinking and being positive, believe me, you'll end up taking better care of yourself. After class at Slimmons today, I'll come home and...get to work cleaning. Today's project is my office. So tell me, what will your cleaning project me today?
