Guest guest
This makes sense to me ("sugars" instead of CHO). Otherwise it gets even more difficult to consume even 100g CHO daily. I've read that paper like 15 times and I don't remember seeing "15 grams!" Can you specify the page? Just curious...how long does your "surgeon-dietitian" spend with the pts? It seems like they wouldn't have nearly enough time to be effective, as we spend an hour with pts and our surgeons spend like 10 minutes for follow-ups. Do they get more money doing this? Otherwise I can't imagine why they would want to do it! Thanks! I try to focus on protein at each meal, healthy carbs, and lastly starch if possible. Then, when reading labels focus on sugars and fats in the food - 15 gms sugars is the guidelines in these new papers that came out - I see so many variances here from program to program - so I figure this must be a good number if it was published! Also, I tell them to look for the 15 gms sugars but look at the ingredient list for added sugars in top 3-4 ingredients to see if most of the sugar is from added vs. natural. It seems like patients think carbs are evil sometimes and really that isn't the case when choosing overall healthier choices..... if they do so! Does this make sense? It is such a challenge with all the different professionals (ie nurses, docs, etc...) putting in their 2 cents. Basically at my facility the surgeons are the dietitian and do a lot of the diet guidance at follow ups. I keep chipping away at them and trying to show them what I could do for them and it is working somewhat. It must be a control thing. We are not a COE, but do about 100 surgeries per year. Feedback welcome! I love this listserv... Theresa Gilbert, RD CNM 88 MDG/WPAFB, OH
