I'M A

MESS...I'M STRESSED!

Monday, 28 March 2011

Oh, stress. It's everywhere,

just like the air we breathe. People get stressed all

the time and a lot of them write and tell me about the

things that're stressing them out. When a person gets

stressed, I can actually see it in their eyes. And

okay, let me ask you, what is stress?

Stress is a normal physical and

emotional reaction to the everyday demands of human

life. So you see, stress is very much related to our

emotions. Some people allow stress to take over their

lives. They can get stressed at home, work, school or

just about anywhere, for that matter. And

let's fact it, stress runs parallel to and often leads

to depression.

Some people can go through a lot in their lives before

they hit the stress button. But others have a very

short fuse and even the smallest problem can cause

them to get all stressed out. These are the people

who turn that famous molehill into a mountain. Now

let's talk about some of the problems stress can lead

to.

When some people get stressed out,

they attempt to deal with it by eating.

They sit at their kitchen tables, stuffing food into

their mouths as they wrestle with all of the things

causing them to be stressed. When others get

stressed, they turn to alcohol thinking it's

going to help. They sit there, watching TV while

nursing a six-pack of beer or their third vodka

tonic. Still other people turn to drugs to

handle their worries and woes. But, truth is, none of

these things relieve the stress. In fact, all they do

is cover up the stress and, in a very short

time, can lead to them having something else

to be stressed about. Now there's a lose-lose

situation if I ever saw one!

And okay, I'll admit that sometimes I too, get

stressed. I get stressed when I see people regain the

weight they've worked so hard to lose then give up on

themselves. I get stressed when I see people I've

been trying to help for years and yet, they still

can't find the self-love they need to make their lives

better.

So, you wanna know what I do when I get stressed?

Well, I turn to exercise! That's right.

And I do it because working out is a sure-fire way to

relieve stress. I don't know about you but sometimes

I even get a stress-induced headache. And when that

happens, I head straight to my gym for a workout.

I'm serious about how

exercise helps relieve stress. Do you know what endorphins

are? Well, they're your brain's feel-good transmitters.

Think of them as little "positive antenna" inside your

head. Exercise makes those antenna dance and feel

happy, sending those endorphins racing through your

brain which, right away, helps you have a much more

positive attitude. Hey! So that's why

I always feel so much better after doing my workouts.

And, truth is, everyone I talk to says the same thing!

So tell me, what's got you stressed out lately? (Oh,

I hope it's not me! LOL.) But seriously,

when you're going through a very stressful period of

your life, don't turn to food. Don't turn to

alcohol. And don't turn to drugs. Where you gonna

turn?

TURN TO SWEAT!

Love,
