so far, so good for DS, thanks! They start all of their "week of welcome" activities tomorrow, so he'll be busy Wed through Sunday and starts class(es) on Monday... whoop!

absolutely, if I go to the nutritionist will share :-)

Re: Treading Water

I hope DS transition to college goes well. If you do the nutrionist please share what you learn.

I was doing my best a year ago when I had that accountability and support. Maybe I'll call Monday and make an appointment for Friday 8/26, ya know...?

But how are *you* doing right now? The tone of your typing seems

light-hearted enough that you appear to be coping well (for now). :)

I see my doc on Monday for med renewals and labwork. I've gained a

few in the 6 months since I last saw him but it's been a bad summer

with no end in sight. The weather was bad enough, but Ed's aunt has

really gone downhill the past 2 months, so bad we're calling today

to see if she can get hospice care arranged. I'm so tired!

LOL, I think I am doing ok for now. Better than I was as far as the panic attacks over the financial side of things. College is a big scarey world LOL!

For example, the housing and dining fees got added to the account last week since the kids could move in starting Sunday and then Monday the tuition and other mandatory fees were added, so I see the account going up 1800 to 4600 to 10300 (for fall semester) and I am starting to get a little uncomfortable hoping the financial aid really shows up. They tell us up front that the fees get added earlier in the week and the financial aid is added in on Thursday of the week before school starts (today) so today I looked and sure enough, there it was and the account balance is back down.

WHEWWWWWWW

I emailed DS today to check his classes/schedules to be sure everything is in order for Monday and if he hasn't already, to consider buying books.

I am sure they are going to wait until the first day of classes, but that's his gig, not mine.

=D

One down (school starts Monday 22nd)

Two to go (school starts next Thurs 25th)

,My post-college, in-grad school, son decided to invest in buying a Kindle. He has found that he can find some of his textbooks in the Kindle format and it is a lot easier to carry around than a big stack of books. I would suppose that any e-reader type device would work. But, has found that if he does have to actually buy a book -- it is usually cheaper to get it at Amazon than it is at the college bookstore. Most of his profs cooperated by posting their book lists early. Dacia<>< ". . . some people brought a deaf man to Jesus." Mark 7:32Lutheran Deaf Mission Societywww.LDMSPah.typepad.comSee Jesus . . . Thanks! What's the other e-reader, a knook (nook?) I can't remember, but they support that format and I think he's already thinking ebooks for sure where he can.

We were panicky like that for the first semester, and Henry had

scholarships that covered all the tuition. When nothing but the bill

appears on the financial statement and not the scholarships or loans

one does tend to panic.

We're going through something similar now with Ed's aunt and getting

her into the nursing home. The paperwork is killing us, especially

when the social worker says one thing, the doctor says another, and

they fight with each over over who is supposed to fill out what. We

spent an hour with the financial director on Thursday trying to make

sense of how the billing will go and how long it will take and how

to get her on Medicaid when her cash runs out if the house isn't yet

sold. We certainly don't have $9000 (plus supplies) to pay if

Medicaid is late kicking in!

>WHEWWWWWWW

We won't be able to have that relief until after her money is gone

and Medicaid finally kicks in to cover *all* the bills. It'll be at

least a year and a half of living on pins and needles waiting. But

if the house does sell quickly after she moves out, then we can

relax a *little*, but not completely.

My son learned *not* to buy his books until after the first class.

Many times the book list shows books the professor no longer wants

and doesn't list books that *are* needed - and the bookstore doesn't

even *have*. More than once he bought a book they never used, too.

And of course it was the newest edition the prof wanted so it

couldn't be bought used.

Welcome to the world of college insanity! LOL

And you have to go through this 2 more times?? I barely survived

once!

I wish those were around when Henry was in college! It would have

saved so much money and frustration, especially when the bookstore

didn't *have* the book needed or even knew of its existence. Places

like Amazon only have so many copies and they run out fast.

LOL, yeahhhhh!! But it might be easier the next two times. Maybe.

Middle son says he'll go to community college for 1-2 years for pre-reqs then transfer out. His program of choice is at University of Hawaii @ Hilo

Youngest son is looking to community for some sort of auto mechanic program (at this time, anyway)

Good luck with the aunt and stuff revolving around that. I feel for ya!

,Tell your youngest son to look into North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton, ND. Their diesel mechanics program has a 100% placement rate after graduation -- it is that good of a program! That is one of the reasons our youngest son chose to go thru that program. Dacia<>< ". . . some people brought a deaf
