BIG NUMBERS!!

Wednesday, 19 January 2011

It's great to start a weight-loss

program, isn't it? At the beginning of this year, you

promised yourself up-and-down that you were

really going to stay on program to finally get those

extra pounds off in 2011. Last year, you didn't do

much or feel so great about your weight. In fact, you

even gained more weight and took a little

"weight-loss sabbatical" in 2010. But here in January

2011, you've decided to go for the gold.

During the first week,

you stocked your kitchen with fresh fruits &

vegetables, whole grain foods, chicken, fish and

plenty of fat-free dairy products. During that first

week, along with planning your meals, you planned your

workouts and stuck with the program. And oh, when you

got on the scale after that first week, you were

rewarded with seeing some great numbers. Thanks to

all of your hard work, the number was...BIG!

You lost five pounds in that first week...WOW!

You were so excited and well, you should have been!

You were telling yourself, "Oh, I knew I could do

it! I knew I was doing good this week and just look

how good I've done! Now I'm gonna stay on

program so I can lose five pounds every week...all

the way to my goal!"

But wait a minute, that's not true and we need to

clear up the reason why it isn't...right now. See,

the more weight you have to lose when you're just

starting out, the more of a weight-loss you'll see,

early on. But the rate of weight-loss will not

continue and be the same every week. If you need to

lose 100 pounds or more, after you first get started,

you're going to see a big weight-loss right at the

beginning. But in time, those numbers will begin to

taper off. Your five-pounds-a-week weight-loss will

balance out to about a pound-and-a-half to two-pound

weight-loss a week. That is, as long as you stay

faithful and stick to the program.

A lot of people get very upset

when they see "only" a pound-and-a-half weight-loss in

a week. Hey, what is there to be upset about? You

should be upset if you gained a

pound-and-a-half in one week!

Look, your weight-loss goals should be realistic.

It's the healthy way to lose weight! Taking

diet pills or living off shakes may give you

a quick weight-loss, sure. But thing is, they don't

give you a lasting weight-loss. In fact, as

soon as you go off any of those quick weight-loss

schemes, you end up gaining back any of the weight you

lose and, more often than not, you gain back even more!

So why even go the quick-weight loss route, huh?

When you get on the scale

every week and see a weight-loss, you should

congratulate and encourage yourself to work even

harder the next week. And remember, there are going

to be some very challenging weeks. I mean

sometimes, even when you stay on program, you may not

see a weight-loss at all one week. But the bottom

line is that if you stay on program, keep eating right

and sweatin', then you will see those

numbers on your scale moving in the right direction

again...down!

And please, do me this one favor. It is

important to keep track of the numbers on your scale

when you're working to lose weight. But you must

not obsess over them! I know you want to lose

this weight and I know you want to lose it in...a

healthy way. And I want that for you, too!

Love,
